cross Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 JKD is more about simplifying things. So insteed of learning alot of stuff you dont need, you just learn the things that you do need, making it simpler than most arts. And the people talking about JKD and point fighting obviously have no idea what JKD is.
Rich67 Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 are you sure you're all talking about the same thing here? jkd has tournaments?OK OK Like I said, I never studied JKD and it's philosophies. I understand that JKD is a lot like MMA...taking different styles and philosophies and integrating them into things that work. The only thing I know about JKD is from "Tao of Jeet Kune Do", so I'm probably not at liberty to talk about it. I was just a little peeved at Sano for his attitude. Sorry if I ticked you JKD guys off. Honestly...no sarcasm there. Mixed Martial Artist
cross Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 I understand that JKD is a lot like MMA...taking different styles and philosophies and integrating them into things that work. Or you could say that MMA is alot like JKD. The big difference is: MMA: take things that work in the ring. JKD: take things that work in self defence.
Kirves Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 Phew! What a thread. JKD has no tournaments, but some JKD students go to MMA/NHB tournaments for getting outside-school sparring experience. JKD is not about accumulating techniques from all new arts, quite the contrary... (now this is what I was trying to say with the quote from Lee) It is about stripping away all the excess * from fighting. Getting down to the core of what works and sticking to it. Honing it until you breath and live it. Too many "art hoppers" say they do JKD just to hide the fact that they lack the discipline to follow any one discipline for the long run. That's not what JKD is. It is about following the personal path of what works for you and stripping away all other stuff that doesn't. JKD is above all, a philosophy, and a set of concepts. It is not just an MMA with a self-defence twist. It is all about following Lee's guidelines for finding the core fighting tactics that work for your personal and physical outfit in a real world fight.
sano Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 Have you fought any serious practitioners of JKD? I doubt you would have a chance against Dan Inosanto. People who can really fight have more respect for others. come on bruce lee only had three years of wing chun training and that guy said that bruce lee did not take it seriously because he was a streetfighter. besides jkd is really close to being dead its like what two schools left. falcon kick!!!
cross Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 besides jkd is really close to being dead its like what two schools left. hahaha, you've really done your research.
Kirves Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 besides jkd is really close to being dead its like what two schools left. Well, here's the graveyard: Inosanto's organization locations: http://www.inosanto.com/cgi-bin/database/a76b-7626.cgi Vunak's organization locations: http://www.fighting.net/instructors.php And then you have all the smaller organizations like JKD Unlimited (Richardson), et. al.
WolverineGuy Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 Oy veh... Wolverine1st Dan - Kalkinodo"Shut up brain, or I'll stab you with a q-tip""There is no spoon."
Icetuete Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 i think JKD surely can be they way to go for some people who want to learn to defend themselves, but i know too few to judge whether its the way for me, too. besides, i sometimes have doubts that certain schools that state to be JKD (or any other art) do as they promise and bring the real stuff.
