Drunken Monkey Posted January 2, 2004 Posted January 2, 2004 whatever post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Treebranch Posted January 2, 2004 Posted January 2, 2004 Have you fought any serious practitioners of JKD? I doubt you would have a chance against Dan Inosanto. People who can really fight have more respect for others. Cybren Posted January 3, 2004 Posted January 3, 2004 You understand Jeet Kune Do was created because Bruce Lee hated people who did things like tournaments? Hell, Bruce Lee was the guy who made full-contact sparring mainstream. And his (Inosanto's)"Dance of Death" was, as far as I know, just something his character did in The Game of Death (Atleast, in the footage that Lee filmed before dying)
SevenStar Posted January 3, 2004 Posted January 3, 2004 Have you fought any serious practitioners of JKD? That's too specific. The real question is has he ever fought anyone at all...
SevenStar Posted January 3, 2004 Posted January 3, 2004 Know what I mean. They say 'have no way as way', when they have to begin by learning techniques and concepts of many different arts. Too many arts chasing to many brain cells. BTW, this is not in any way meant to be a burn post. JKD has the right philosophy, just perhaps the wrong approach. Any thoughts? nah, it's not too complicated. MMA do it. CMA did it back in the day. Let's narrow it down some; Lee advocated using what's effective. let's look at what you need in order to be well rounded - good footwork, hand strikes, kicks, trapping, grappling (standing and ground). Now, find the arts who use those tecnhiques in a manner that's in line with your own personal style. For me, it's judo, bjj, muay thai and shuai chiao. for someone else, it may be catch wrestling, boxing and savate. find what works, get a firm foundation in something, then branch out.
Kirves Posted January 3, 2004 Posted January 3, 2004 Yeah, Inosanto includes Muay Thai, BJJ, et. al. in his JKD mix.... Talk about full contact, eh? The difference between JKD and your standard MMA school is: 1. JKD Concepts as the guideline 2. JKD focuses on real world self-defence, thus weapons and multiples are trained for
Rich67 Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 jkd is for people who are afraid to get hit AKA point fighters. and dan insanto that has been i can destroy and his dance of death with one crushing blow. This "macho" attitude always cracks me up. In a REAL fight, let's be honest here, you DON'T WANT to get hit! Would you like to be hit, square in the nose or jaw, by someone who is an experienced boxer? If you think that's enjoyable, and you are such a real "man" that you can suck it up, then be my guest. JKD's "dance of death" (as you refer to it) is a method used to confuse and keep your opponent guessing, and help you avoid direct strikes, which can definitely put a damper on your ability to finish a fight. Bottom line is, you WILL get hit in a street fight. But just walking into a punch to prove you're a man is just friggin' stupid. Winning the fight is the sole objective. Not going to the hospital with a busted jaw. Now don't get me wrong, I never studied JKD and don't really care to, since I don't believe it is an extremely effective method of study. But it has it's place in tournaments (or point fighting) where the fights are bound by rules. Mixed Martial Artist
Drunken Monkey Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 are you sure you're all talking about the same thing here? jkd has tournaments? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Drunken Monkey Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 i would've thought inosanto's name would have made it quite clear what we were talking about... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
