Sho-ju Posted December 28, 2003 Posted December 28, 2003 http://store.yahoo.com/yhst-1129393017033/index.html If you looking for a good quaility weapon...we are looking into using the shillelagh but it seems a bit heavy.
tommarker Posted December 28, 2003 Posted December 28, 2003 are you on the Bata listserv? I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
Sho-ju Posted December 28, 2003 Author Posted December 28, 2003 I am. I take it you are as well? I've been in contact with Roger Oster from Mendowood and about to place my order. They seem like a once in a life time buy and a solid weapon.
tommarker Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 I lurk on it, yes.. I thought I was experiencing deja vu for a moment! I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
Sauzin Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 Some very nice looking peices. What is the long of the staff made out of? Do you do custom work? The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it.
Sho-ju Posted January 9, 2004 Author Posted January 9, 2004 Some very nice looking peices. What is the long of the staff made out of? Do you do custom work? The site said it was made (the shaft) from a metal rod and epocy... It comes in at about 1.5 - 2lbs. When you place your order they cut it to fit you size. It's a good deal over all...
tommarker Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 Sho-ju, how does it feel compared to the shillalegh you wrote about in the other thread? I thought I read some concerns about weight distribution for those who practice more one hand type swings. I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
Sho-ju Posted January 10, 2004 Author Posted January 10, 2004 (I havent' ordered one yet, I've been busy getting Cumann Bhata Chatham off the ground, working two new bo kata and revising the grading syllabus. OSU!) I like the two handed grip, it gives you the option of a single grip at anytime with any hand. Hip throws are staple in my game, so I like to use a two handed grips for in close. You have more power in close with the two handed grip then you do with a single handed grip. I do however use a cleith de bhata (long heavy stick) made of dog wood, it's root nob is hugh, dense. It's a little longer then a shillelagh, weights around 2lbs so I use a two handed grip. I'm building speed right now with it, but I have to say, the two handed grip is working for the bigger bhata. Note: I don't believe one is not better then the other I just like the two handed grip, it's suits the way I fight. I'm going to snap a pic asap and put it up on the bata group...it's a beaut but still in the works. The head is 3.5"
