The BB of C Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 There's nothing wrong with Christians doing martial arts. I'm a Christian martial artist. To those who say it can do anything but make faith stronger, I beg to differ. The martial arts have helped me a lot in making my faith stronger. In fact; I pray every time just before a fight and I always do better. Turning the other cheek has virtually nothing to do with it.When the martial arts or anything for that matter become a problem is when the people start putting it above God, worshiping it, fill in the blanks I'm out of examples. What does that mean at the beginning of this topic that Christians can be a stumbling block in martial arts?
masterintraining Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 1. We know that God helps those that help themselves.2. We know that the bible says "Iron sharpens Iron" In reference to the way men treat/raise, etc. each other.3. We know that our God is not a God of peace. He is a God of compliance. He wants us to do as He says, and to follow His law. He has destroyed nations that have not complied. He obviously has no problem with battle, if it's justified.Where things start to get hairy is when you involve eastern concepts. For starters, many people think ki/chi/prana/punap, etc. is some mystical force that's called upon. Naturally, that is seen as demonic. Next, there's the issue of calling someone "master". The only master one should have and serve is God. In addition, some styles, like ninjutsu, do deal with things that are quite unchristian. The 9 hand signs for example, if I understand them right. As a side note, My church recently asked me to implement a kickboxing and/or judo class. what are the nine hand sighns and how are they unchristian do u meen those hand sighns like in "naruto " or anything simular you must learn different combinations of techniques down to your very soul and they must come without thinking when you finish with one technique, you must immediately go into another until you have attained your goal which is to destroy the enemy.
Ace2021 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 In response to the original poster:Yes Christians should do Martial arts, someone intent on hurting you won't care if you're Christian or Atheist. (Unless they're that sadistic) A New Age Dawns
DasZab Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Hahaha! My first instructor was a bishop in a Christian community! =D I don't think there's anything wrong with being Christian and practicing karate... I do it all the time! La voie. La vérité. La vie.
Clash Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 My Sensei and main Sempai at the school I'm joining this week are both devout Christians, as is most of the other people I've seen in the classes (being that i live in the bible belt). They two in question Sensei and Sempai are both very good at MA and it does not seem to get in the way of their faith.
YoungMan Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Several of our Instructors hold classes in church recreation facilities. So obviously being Christian is no barrier to practicing Tae Kwon Do. There is no martial arts without philosophy.

DO IT! “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.” ~ Bruce Lee
ryukasagi Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I don't see why not, i'm Christian and i do Martial Arts. Currently a Blue Belt in AKKI Kenpo
Traymond Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Some people may say no because you may hurt your body,. like some Christians will not even play football because you have to use your body for contact. but as a Christian you should also be able to defend yourself, and to be able to better your body. So yes, we should do it. To fear death is to limit life - Xin Sarith Azuma Phan Wuku
