Of course, they based on JJJ but adapted many moves, but others they invented.

 

Look that in Judo you only have 1 "guard", in BJJ you have many types of guard.. so, that's the evolution of BJJ

Not to intentionally play devil's advocate or anything, but he also trained in jiu jitsu, so he had some notion of how to grapple...

It says TMA vs. Grappler. It's still a grappling art, it's still extremely effective and does teach ground fighting, but it does not specialize in ground fight like BJJ. But BJJ also has it's weaknesses and strengths.
