theswarm
im gonna say it first as you'd see for any martial art you're not going to be able to learn anything from a book or movie as far as capoeira or any other martial art goes you might learn how to do ginga though i guess. tommarker
capoeira is HARD to get the nuances of. you see a lot of people lifting some moves from it, but that's only 20% of the art. I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
Guy_Mendiola
you mean Capoeira is hard to do all of those backflip kicks and handstand kicks and etc, now that is HARD!
Breakdancer
no actually thats probably the easy part,
tommarker
the timing, rhythm, weight distribution, and the flexibility (both physical and mental) needed to play capoeira are incredible. you know how we say in karate you could spend 20 years studying low block? the same is with jenga. i've done a few seminars over the years, and we always start with jenga and i see something that i didn't see 2 years before...it's amazing the flash, with a black belt in a korean art, I can do some funky kicks, but it's so not the true point of capoeira. MadCapoeirista
Yeah, I agree with these guys. Even trying to learn a little bit of capoeira from books or videos is effort best placed elsewhere. All the capoeira "instructional" videos on the market are not very good and are a waste of money. The books are very good for history and some movements but if you're not learning capoeira from a teacher at a school..pictures won't help you at all. I "discovered" a move I've never seen anyone else do in 5 years of capoeira practice/experience. I was pretty excited, then I come home and look in a book I've had for two years and the move is right there in a drawing w/ description, turns out I just wasn't ready to understand it.. heh I see you're in Texas, where? I know there's capoeira down there..

Scorcho
Check this site out, although I think that it will be hard to learn from. Also, check out the movie Only the Strong. http://www.wu-wien.ac.at/usr/h96b/h9650297/cap-basics.html "The true master avoids the fight."Shodan - Uechi-Ryu KarateBrown Belt - Zen Budo Ryu JJ, Yoshinkan Aikido
