This may be a strange question....

I am trying to fashion a suruchin to begin practicing. My Kaicho says I should make my own. So I plan to buy a 6 foot length of hemp rope. But two questions...

1) What size stones should I use to weight the ends?

2) Is there a special way I should tie the stones to the end?

Thanks for your help!

i'd imagine your instructor would give you the best answers.

I made one of these once, with a monkey fist knot tied around a large steel shot. You will need a lot more than 6 feet of rope for that.

not exactly "traditional" so if it is for class, I would definetely get details from the instructor...

Unless of course, he's one of those instructors who says "do it!" and won't give you any help until you bring him a first attempt. :)

I'm no longer posting here. Adios.

I have heard the best practice form of this weapon is fashioned using two tennis or raquetballs and a nylon rope like that used for climbing. Edited by sriney

The suruchin slightly resembles a bolo. More specifically, it's a 6 foot hemp rope with a smooth stone secured to each end.
