Okinawannabe Posted December 15, 2003 Posted December 15, 2003 This may be a strange question.... I am trying to fashion a suruchin to begin practicing. My Kaicho says I should make my own. So I plan to buy a 6 foot length of hemp rope. But two questions... 1) What size stones should I use to weight the ends? 2) Is there a special way I should tie the stones to the end? Thanks for your help!
battousai16 Posted December 18, 2003 Posted December 18, 2003 i'd imagine your instructor would give you the best answers. "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
tommarker Posted December 18, 2003 Posted December 18, 2003 I made one of these once, with a monkey fist knot tied around a large steel shot. You will need a lot more than 6 feet of rope for that. http://www.angelfire.com/pa4/t173/monkeyfist.html http://131.230.57.1/knots/m_fista.htm (animated instructions) not exactly "traditional" so if it is for class, I would definetely get details from the instructor... Unless of course, he's one of those instructors who says "do it!" and won't give you any help until you bring him a first attempt. I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
sriney Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 (edited) I have heard the best practice form of this weapon is fashioned using two tennis or raquetballs and a nylon rope like that used for climbing. sriney Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 The suruchin slightly resembles a bolo. More specifically, it's a 6 foot hemp rope with a smooth stone secured to each end. -Sam Riney-WTF Black Belt in Tae Kwon DoPiasa Martial Arts - Alton, ILWhite Belt in KobudoGMAP - Springfield, IL
