Angus Posted July 17, 2001 Author Posted July 17, 2001 Yeah, she won the 'game' alright, but if it had been in the street i would have had my money on the other chick. How many times was the fight stopped because Laura got kicked in the groin? I doubt the street fight would have been stopped if such a thing would have happened. I know about TKD, and i am not dissing the art, i am just dissing the fact that the sport side is so very very poor. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
niel0092 Posted July 20, 2001 Posted July 20, 2001 I like the sport side of TKD. It's almost like a rough game of tag. If when playing tag someone occasionally got their teeth knocked out. Do you know how hard it is to find a 24 hr. drug store that is actually open 24 hrs in this town? I spent 2 hrs trying to get my buddies perscription filled after he got hurt. thaiboxerken Posted July 20, 2001 Posted July 20, 2001 Yea, but tag is tag.. I'd rather watch something that more closely resembles a fight and is continuous. Hope your buddy keeps his hands up the next time. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
niel0092 Posted July 20, 2001 Posted July 20, 2001 It just goes to show you that weird things can happen. He hit the guy with a left round kick hard enough to make him fall over. As the guy fell he threw his leg out to get one last shot in. The kick came straight in and my friend couldn't get out of the way. I don't really think he could have done to much about it but broken hands are better than broken teeth. "Jita Kyoei" Mutual Benefit and Welfare
iamrushman Posted July 20, 2001 Posted July 20, 2001 this is a good example for the need of protective equipment in amateur sports. oh yea; health benefits help otherwise it can get costly. rushman (karate forums sensei)3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon"saying nothing...sometimes says the most"--e. dickerson
Angus Posted July 20, 2001 Author Posted July 20, 2001 Getting hurt is part and parcel of the martial arts... Make pain your friend! Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
austkd1 Posted July 23, 2001 Posted July 23, 2001 I am at a loss to know why people have to run down another Martial Arts. Taekwondo is just as effective as any other Martial arts. It is up the individual person what type of Martial Arts they want to do. No matter what type you do they are all effective. So lets stop running down sports and lets get some positive feed back.
Angus Posted July 23, 2001 Author Posted July 23, 2001 I'm just saying that sport TKD is near useless for the street. It isn't a MA of it's own, just an abomination of a great martial art that definately has potential. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
iamrushman Posted July 23, 2001 Posted July 23, 2001 excuse me; if the person using any marial art does not have the disposition or is overcome by fear at the time......all martial art training is for not and is a moot point at the time. be it in the ring or on the street. that's why we call it training and practice. rushman (karate forums sensei)3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon"saying nothing...sometimes says the most"--e. dickerson
iamrushman Posted July 23, 2001 Posted July 23, 2001 one other thought: before we start our usual TKD sport or other MA bashing, let's review the definition of MARTIAL ARTS. MARTIAL: having to do with war or military life; based on MARS, the god of war. ART: rules or methods needed to make or do something, such as skill, an occupation or craft. (craft: cleverness in deceiving others; cunning.) therfore: football/ rugby/ hockey/ et. al. are martial sports that play no roll in street applications either. rushman (karate forums sensei)3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon"saying nothing...sometimes says the most"--e. dickerson
