MunkyBoy Posted December 7, 2003 Posted December 7, 2003 hey there - christmas is coming and i dont know what to write on my wishlist and i thought i might need some machine that helps me in training. is there any training machine that you have made good experiences with? something that helps me develope good kicks/punches would be great, and at a not so high price of possible a link to a picture + prescription would be ok. or your personal experiences would be even better. thanks in advance.
White_Tiger Posted December 10, 2003 Posted December 10, 2003 I bought a "heavy vest'. It weighs 15 lbs, and will wear you out while doing drills. Way under $100.
Icetuete Posted December 10, 2003 Posted December 10, 2003 are heavy vests such a good idea? i mean, inhowfar to they provide better training results? or do they just hurt your joints?
MunkyBoy Posted December 11, 2003 Author Posted December 11, 2003 do training gadgets suck perse or why doesnt anybody even LOOK at my thread?
aes Posted December 11, 2003 Posted December 11, 2003 I don't know much about training gadgets and expect lost here don't use them. To me the best training is done with the pretty standard equipment. Heavy bags and time put in. Gadgets might add some spark to the repetition though. I am looking for some good books/videos on sparring techniques myself for xmas. 43 Years oldBlue Belt (7th Kyu) Shorin-ryuRoberts Karate
chh Posted December 11, 2003 Posted December 11, 2003 How about a gyro ball? That's the only gadget-y training device I have. I think they're around 30 bucks, they do a great job working your hand and forearm muscles. I wouldn't call buying one a "lifestyle decision" as it says on their goofy website, but hey. Most sporting goods stores carry them. http://www.powerballs.com/powerball_benefits.html
monkeygirl Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 I think the heavy bag is probably the most important piece of equipment that a martial artist can have. If it's of the kind that stands on the floor, it can even be used to stretch with, or lean your weight on to keep your balance and do resistance drills with your legs, so it's pretty versatile. Oh, and handwraps. Stretching machines can be nice, but they eliminate the best half of the stretch...laying down on your stomach. 1st dan & Asst. SaiFightsMS Posted December 13, 2003 Posted December 13, 2003 For the most part martial arts training is fairly gadgetless compared to other past times. The piece of equipment that is most often discussed is what gi is your choice.
