Breakdancer Posted December 5, 2003 Posted December 5, 2003 any of youy kung fu guys kno what Jeng is? stands for energy mind and body combined working as one, does your school stress this activitity?
Drunken Monkey Posted December 5, 2003 Posted December 5, 2003 so um, where did you read that one? cos the only chinese words i know that sounds like that means 'nice' or 'well' or 'smart/sly' maybe if you can upload a jpeg of the character i can help you bit. as for my class. we prefere to work on the: 'my fist, your face combining as one' post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Breakdancer Posted December 6, 2003 Author Posted December 6, 2003 its not true kung fu if it doesn't contain jeng, if you dont use jeng than what your doing is not kung fu, you may know kung fu but your not doing kung fu, there would be no difference from kung fu and kickboxing if it wasnt for jeng
Drunken Monkey Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 what??? energy, in chinese is strength/power/force. mind, in chinese is concerntration/focus/mentality. body, in chinese is well, body. therefore a kickboxer IS doing 'kung fu' because he is using strength, focus and body. * * * one of the earliest forms, and the most widespread types of kung fu was 'san shou' (taken from cantonese and not refering to any style). this is basically loose techniques. very basic principles. four gates. centre. stance. blocks. grabs. hits. nothing to do with energy. nothing to do with mind. all about blocking a hit and making a hit. so are you saying that this wasn't kung fu? wing chun. it's aim was to defeat the old styles. the people who originally used this style didn't care about mind or energy. all they cared about was being able to kill ching soldiers and high ranking government officers. so wing chun wasn't kung fu then? like i said. show me the word you are trying, very badly, to talk about and i'll tell what it really means. oh yeah, tell me again what style you are learning. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Breakdancer Posted December 6, 2003 Author Posted December 6, 2003 jeng is energy body and mind acting as one, your whole body acting as one to do one motion, to do one punch youm uch use your whole body, its the concept to kill someone in one or two punches or one or two techniques, kickboxing they are only using body and mind but the energy isn't flowing as one its segmented, he isn't using jeng, the movement is segmented. Yip man did kung fu he used jeng, all of his movements were together as one, some of them though used just muscle mass like kickboxing does to issue power, when jeng is much more efficient some wing chun people use jeng some dont, those that do is kung fu those that dont isn't. theres a article somewhere i'll get it for you
Breakdancer Posted December 6, 2003 Author Posted December 6, 2003 http://www.kickboxing.com/knowledge/fitness/ckc1.htm thats the link and heres a good quote "This refining process begins in the legs and hips and, by coordinating through the body, is sent it out to the limb being used. In the hand strike, for example, as the hip torques, the kinetic energy travels up the back and out the arm. If, however, at any point the body is stiff and a set of muscles is tight on the side of the body which the technique is being employed, kinetic energy will be hindered or rendered ineffective. This is the concept of relaxation when discharging kinetic energy in a technique. Relaxation does not mean sloppiness but rather a supple muscular state, which allows kinetic energy to flow efficiently. " he never uses the word, Jeng but he is obviously describing it, such as my teacher described it to me
Breakdancer Posted December 6, 2003 Author Posted December 6, 2003 also forget everything i said about Kung fu and put traditional wushu, kung fu is too broad of a term
Drunken Monkey Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 whoa, let me get this right, kickboxing isn't kung fu according to you, and yet you give a kickboxing link? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Breakdancer Posted December 6, 2003 Author Posted December 6, 2003 you didn't read the link yet, the guy who wrote it is a mantis practitioner
Drunken Monkey Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 i have. doesn't say anything about 'jeng' (which you still haven't shown me) all i can see, is an article about body mechanics. and i see now. you read an article about a mantis guy and all of a sudden, you're doing mantis as well.... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
