Not having much exposure to this art, it's hard to say. But from wh I've seen, there are several small, precise movements, which would have limited efectiveness on the street when adrenaline kicks in and you're reuced to gross motor movements and every move is sloppy.

Also, when practising techniques, it doesn't look like the training partner offers much resistance, nor do they come at them with any techniques that most people would use.

So, IMO this is not a god art for self-defence.

aikido is a very defensive

but applying in real situation is hard,

u'll need a very high level of skill ,technics and grapping exprience to use in real fight.

I dont think Aikido is good for the avergae person looking to learn how to defend themselves. There are quicker more effective means imo.

For Aikido to be effective, it takes a great deal longer to develop the skill to execute the techniques properly.

they played trumpets to warn you that I was coming.

I take Aikido and JuJitsu together at college, and our training inculdes lots of randori and free-fighting with resistance. I think that the style of training is much more important that the style, at least as far as effectiveness is concerned.
