JerryLove Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 Specificly men and women of all ages and sizes since those were the ones called up to defend israel and the ones Imi designed the system for. I did not realize that children and old women were in the IDF. From kravmaga.no [emphasis mine]: "Upon retiring from the IDF in the early 60`s, Imi began adapting the style for civilian use. He established two schools, one in Netanya and one in Tel Aviv." https://www.clearsilat.com
Treebranch Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 I'm curious, how much emphasis does Krav Maga put on Ukemi or falling and evasion. Do they have rolling, leaping and evasion exercises? Evasion is 70-80% of the fight. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
Uechi Kid Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 Find a School that focuses on pressuer point fighting (Kyusho Jitsu) and grappling (Tuite). More Practice
Treebranch Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 Is Ukemi more for grappling arts than striking arts? I think all MA's should teach Ukemi. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"

First of your right about 1 thing, KM is not designed for children. as far as old women go, None of the dozens I work with rarely have a problem with with any techniques. like i said they are designed to fit a wide variety of individuals.Upon retiring from the IDF in the early 60`s, Imi began adapting the style for civilian use. Correct, since the majority of the time civilians will not be carrying a machine gun, knife, and other equipment. The same is true for law enforement. Certain techniques are adapted to law enforcement officers, why? because you should take into account that the officer has a sidearm, and depending on the situation you may need to factor it in in both retention and drawing of it.

TJS Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 Find a School that focuses on pressuer point fighting (Kyusho Jitsu) and grappling (Tuite). So someone wanting to learn How to fight in a short period of time should look tword presessure points? sounds like you may have read the topic wrong..
Treebranch Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 Well TJS I'm not too familiar with Krav Maga. I've only seen a few video clips of techniques and it seems like they just bombard the attacker with a whirlwind of blows. I'm just wondering if evasion and escaping techniques are taught just in case your blows may not effect the attacker like you'd like to due to the size or skill of the attacker. You don't want to go head on with everyone. All I'm saying is you can't fight everyone the same way. Yes KM emphasizes Attacking the attacker as quickly as possible and not stopping until they are no longer a threat. If i hit someone with everything i had and they were not eff4ected i would run because they are obviously a terminator KM also defenses and evasion to strikes aswell as various holds and grabs.
Treebranch Posted December 3, 2003 Posted December 3, 2003 Just curious. Is that basically the philosophy behind Krav Maga, or does it concentrate on defeating the attacker as quick as possible? Does it concentrate on vital areas as key points of attack or is it just to beat the crap out of someone with as many hits as you can get in?
