hey guys.

the topic sums it up basically. i want to learn an art that teaches me how to deliver a good amount of damage in a short amount of time. i know too well that ANY martial art relies upon the ability of the practitioner when it comes to adapting his training in order to make it street effective. but in my opinion there are arts that are better suited for this than others might be. to me, it appears like this is the best in every street situation you might encounter. no matter how many attackers you face, or how the fight might develop, since there wont be time for development.

thanks in advance.

by short time do you mean amount of time needed to get a grasp of the art or a powerfull technique when you havent got much time in a fight

An art well-suited for the street which can help you deliver a lot of damage with few blows? Sounds like you should check out Muay Thai, which is a kickboxing system that is pretty easy to learn the basics of, and includes devastating sound kicks, elbows, knees, and boxing techniques. It'll get you conditioned both physcially and mentally for a fight.

My big problem with suggesting Muay Thai is the physical requirements. It is essentially a hard art, and not one I would recommend for very weak, fragile, small, or out-of-shape people (to be useful in short order).

Similar problem with Krav... was designed for specific people.

If I had to think more all-purpose, and quick, I would think of arts like Serak or some of the Baji systems. A Jujitsu comes to mind as well.

Japanese JuJitsu can be effective, but it takes many years to have any competance in it. Someone can train in Muay Thai for a few months and be much better able to defend himself. I was assuming the poster was in decent shape - You don't have to be an amazing athlete to be good at Muay Thai, plus, at least with the training I've done, it's a great cardio workout and would get a person into shape rather quickly. As far as it being a "hard art", unless someone has a real physical handicap, Muay Thai should be fine for them - it's not like they throw you into the ring for full-contact, shin-splintering sparring right away! Of course, as with boxing or kickboxing, bag drills and shadow boxing are how techniques are learned!

Specificly men and women of all ages and sizes since those were the ones called up to defend israel and the ones Imi designed the system for.

Dont forget that men and women of a wide variety serve in the IDF.

sorry, should have made myself clearer...

i was talking about "in a short amount of time DURING the fight". i dont mind time that it takes to learn, since martial arts are fun to me, nonetheless. but my primary goal is to (someone around here used the expression) be able to run over people like a truck or something.

I still think Muay Thai is good....as is regular boxing....because a good hook to a soft part of the face WILL end the fight, as will an elbow to the face.

"Run over people like a truck"? Learn some basic takedowns - wrestling/other form of grappling - double and single leg!
