Ashura Posted November 27, 2003 Posted November 27, 2003 I have a question for you Hung Gar Kung Fu Practitioners, is Hung Gar considered a hard style or a soft style of Martial Arts? Yup
martialartsresearcher Posted November 27, 2003 Posted November 27, 2003 well... ya see, Hung Gar Kung Fu is hard/soft, external MA. so its both hard and soft, except it leans more towards the hard/external way, with a little soft, internal ki mixed in to it. so basicly it is a hard/soft external martial art (hung gar kung fu). well i hope this helps you,ok. bye.
backfist Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 I agree. Hung Gar, in the generic terminology of hard vs. soft, is a "hard" style from southern China (close fighting, strong blocks and strikes). So Many Masters; So Few Students
Drunken Monkey Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 well, all 'modern' chinese martial arts have an aspect of breathing (or 'chi' in chinese). to have proper control, your breathing has to be controlled and your breathing has to be settled etc, etc. but i recall a brief conversation with a hung gar sifu whose basic reply was: 'if he uses technique, use technique back if he uses strength, use strength back' and 'if he hits you hard, hit him harder' i should say that this is translated from cantonese and loses a bit of meaning... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
retsu Posted December 4, 2003 Posted December 4, 2003 hung gur is a hard style however there is also soft technics in hung gar anyway, there are also some shifu out there who teaches external arts using internal arts principles Qoo -_- LemonKiss
