KoreanTiger30 Posted February 7, 2004 Posted February 7, 2004 it depends mainly on the style of martil arts you practice. My Ji Do Kwan stlye Tae Kwon Do took 3.5 years and Hapkido was 4 years. Hapkido personally takes longer because there is so much that encompasses the curriculum. Degree to degree is a different story and i know alot of federations have age requiremnts. WTF offical first Dan is 16; 2nd dan is 18-19; and so forth and the Korea Hapkido federation has age requiremnts as well. I know their websites has the age postings for degrees. The KOrean HKD Federation lists all the techniques that have to be learned with each gup all the way through 5th degree black belt. However schools may vary from the official format because i know for th dan hapkido you ahve to learn horseback riding and archery form horseback and I dont recall hearing baout that in the U.S. schools having taught it.
