I thought this would make an interesting thread. To anyone who doesn't know, HAPV was a phrase coined by the famous Patrick McCarthy, to describe common techniques used in physical attacks.

Someone choose a HAPV and we'll discuss it for a while. I'll start... Person A pushes Person B, Person B responds with a right roundhouse punch to the head.

Ahhhh... good example there, Kirves :)

Option 1: Most of the time, you can see a fight coming... usually with a move like a push or a grab... pressure points and joint locks are a good self defense method against these to put yourself in control.

Option 2: Usually from a choke or a headlock, they leave their groin fairly wide open to a strike. This is probably the method I would chose first, while having a hand on their arm or wrist. After striking, the grip is almost certain to loosen up leaving an opertunity to use a joint lock... failing that maybe a strike to the throat and a quick take down ...

Then run! :) cant be hurt if you're not around!

I'd rather run and maybe have someone think I'm a "whimp" rather than staying there and s/he finds a weapon to use!

Yeah, but do they do it RIGHT? Just because it's easy doesn't mean it doesn't work.

"Right" according to which specific style of martial art?

True, few untrained people punch, kick or wrestle "correctly", yet they often manage to do lots of pain and damage when they want to.

If person A has enough forward directed aggression going on, he will push B again before the punch of B lands, then he gets doubly p*ss*d off at B for trying to punch him and he charges at B, making them both fall onto the ground and then they wrestle like two kindergarten-kids. :P

Hmm, a familiar image.

are willing to endure pain with patience."
