KaratekaAndy
I thought karate had no weaponsDepends on what you do. The karate I practice in does weapon training.I prefer using a staff over the other weapons available. "...to stand between the candle and the shining moon..." cathal
I voted boTrue, in my dojo we officially do not practice with weapons. However the instructors do not disallow or protest if you bring weapons to train with. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
ShadowFox
I gotta go with the staff, yet for some strange reason I have an easier wielding Nunchaku. GOM
Karate and Kobudo are two different Martial Arts. Granted a lot of karate schools do include kobudo, but they are not related. 'Karate' (China/Empty hand) never had weapons in it's syllabus, as karate was formed for Japanese school children as a means of fitness, stretching and sport. Sohan
Japanese karate may not have had weapons as part of their syllabus, but Okinawan karate from Shuri, Naha, and Tomari, the precursors to Japanese karate, did. Weapons include the kama, noburikama, tonfa, sai, and nunchuka. This is what we have been taught in Shorin-ryu karate-do.
