daeinwolf Posted November 6, 2003 Posted November 6, 2003 For the Wing Tsun practitioners out there, what is everyone's opinion of Leung Ting style? Up until recently I had not heard of him. Is his style legitamate? http://www.leungtingwingtsun.net/sawt Thank you for any and all answers. SiK--Joshua There are no limits.
bluez4u2 Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 Wing Tsun is legitamate but unfortunately there is a lot of red tape and politics in the Leung Ting version. The version that is being taught my Emin Boztepe is more realistic, pratical and without all the politics and * that you find with Leung Ting's organization. There are a couple of guys that teach Emin Boztepe Martial Arts System Wing Tzun in San Antonio. Check out the following webpage for information on EBMAS and if you want info on the San Antonio instructors, message me in private. http://www.awtk.us
backfist Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 Not to be an antagonist, I'd suggest that merely adding one's name as a descriptor of a centuries-old art is "political" in nature. So Many Masters; So Few Students
bluez4u2 Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 The name of the arts that he teaches are Wing Tzun and Latosa Weapons System. It is not Emin Boztepe Wing Tzun or Emin Boztepe Escrima. The name EBMAS means Emin Boztepe Martial Arts System. He named it that way because many people worldwide know his name and would immediately know he was legit in what he was teaching despite the lies from the Leung Ting camp.
backfist Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 I'm honestly not trying to be a jerk, it's just that the very names of the styles suggest a personification of them. Wing Chun today (to wit: Wing Tzun, Ving Tsun, and all the ones with someone's name attached) is no less political than Kenpo (to wit: Tracy's Kenpo, Ed Parker Kenpo, Shaolin Kenpo, Kempo, Chinese Kempo, etc.). So Many Masters; So Few Students
shotokanwarrior Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 why not add a your name if you changed an art. wing chun was a womens name. Where Art ends, nature begins.
backfist Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Again, I was staying on task as far as the topic of politics was concerned. I have no problem with changing, modifying, deleting within a style. Nor do I have a problem with affixing a name to a style. Just wanted to make that clear. The issue of politics came up. I opined that even the mere altering of a form, technique or title will bring about politics. Again, not that modifying or adding a name is a bad thing; often it's good. Politics occurs when anything changes or deviates from the norm. Not that change or deviation is bad. Did I mention that adding a name or changing a style wasn't a bad thing? So Many Masters; So Few Students
Drunken Monkey Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 well, it only really becomes an issue when you qualify your reasons for changing. you can say you changed it to make it better. or you could say that you changed it to better suit yourself. as i always say, the question of politics only really arises and causes problems (for us as students) if you let them. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
