humblecanadiangojuguy Posted November 3, 2003 Posted November 3, 2003 Why is there so much politics in martial arts from people who claim to have no ego or that ego is bad. Soooo many of these people have very big egos, that is the problem. Thanks
Jussi Häkkinen Posted November 3, 2003 Posted November 3, 2003 Why are politics and big ego a concern for you? We're humans. It's natural for us to act that way. So, politics are rather inevitable. Jussi HäkkinenOkinawan Shorin-Ryu Seibukan Karate-Do (Kyan Chotoku lineage)TurkuFinland
humblecanadiangojuguy Posted November 3, 2003 Author Posted November 3, 2003 Politics should be a concern to anyone who is in martial arts and has been effected by it. I have been effected by it. If we as martial artists want to better ourselves through Karate then we should avoid politics whenever we can. Karate is what we do, not politics. Leave politics for goverments and work places. stl_karateka Posted November 3, 2003 Posted November 3, 2003 It sucks cause the people that end up getting hurt is the students / competitors. I see it going on now. KarateForums.com Sempai
delta1 Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 ...politics in martial arts from people who claim to have no ego or that ego is bad. I think a certain ammount of ego is necessary to be a good martial artist. The problem is that people don't learn how to control their egos, or else they are too self centered to try. Shorinryu Sensei Posted December 28, 2003 Posted December 28, 2003 Where you have people, you have politics. It's just human nature. Years ago, I quit the only organization that governed the system that I study because of politics, and I was on my own and without an organization to work with for quite a few years. This is the main reason I haven't had a promotions since 1990..and that's OK with me. I just joined a new association last year (http://www.geocities.com/rohai.geo/page.html) and am quite pleased with it so far. Their whole premise is just two things. 1. To follow the teachings of the late OSensei Yuichi Kuda. 2. To be NON-POLITICAL! #2 is the toughest part of course, and time will tell as to how well it works. So far, I see great things for this group, small as it is. My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
jeffrogers Posted January 3, 2004 Posted January 3, 2004 Its human nature people get jealous, they get cocky and envy others becaue of there success. Your always going the some form of bullshit in any thing you do thats the great tao symbol is for. Or I mean the Yin/Yang symbol. Balance in all things. You have good and you have the equally opposite bad in all things. Hopefully some times you can find more good in it and it will be worth while in the long run. If its to much bad. Well time to find something else to do or some where new to train. Just my thoughts. -Jeff
Practice is the key _ Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 Politics is a good things to influnces. Somone love oneSomone love twoI love one That one is myself just have been turn down....
Karateka Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 Politics allows you to see what Martial Arts training can be and what it should be. I know about the political game where certain instructors try to take other students by offering them discounts and promotions just so that they enhance the club. It is just a nightmare. However, it gives you a valuable lesson in life that helps you determine who you can learn from and who wants to use you.
