martialartsresearcher Posted October 29, 2003 Posted October 29, 2003 I was wondering, do grappling arts such as BJJ and judo really have kata in them, or does grappling have no kata?
TJS Posted October 29, 2003 Posted October 29, 2003 I dont think most stlyes have any, I know BJJ dosent..judo might have some but i dont think they are common.
Tibby Posted October 29, 2003 Posted October 29, 2003 yeah, what they said I like the Kata in Jujitsu. You applcation just seems more pratical then the Karate Kata. You can see your self doing this in a fight more so then the karate kata. Especially the ground kata. Great for learning pins and holds, and getting used to going right into one.
Treebranch Posted November 4, 2003 Posted November 4, 2003 They are very short and some katas are done with the aid of a partner. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
Reklats Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 We do absolutely no kata. Unless you consider neck bridging and escape movements kata... in that case football teams do tackling kata...
Treebranch Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 Yeah, there are no katas in wrestling. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
Treebranch Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 Same thing. GJJ could use more stand up skills in it. I don't see why they don't evolve and include strikes and kicks and stand up grappling that doesn't require you to go to the ground. It is mostly groundfighting which only one aspect of fighting.
