Experiences of real self defence: some questions

Recommended Posts

I know a few people here have been involved in real self defence situations, so here's a few questions about your experiences to give others information that MIGHT be useful in preparing against the same

1) Where the attack happened (e.g. club, street, pub, alleyway, ...)

2) Time of day (day/evening/night/early hours)

3) Number of attackers

4) What the attackers were armed with (if anything)

5) Were there other people around (noone, a few, crowds)

6) What was the first sign you noticed that there was going to be trouble?

Currently: Kickboxing and variants.

Previously: Karate (Seido, Shotokan, Seidokan), Ju Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Fencing.

i've been in 3 self defense situations in my life, and i'll tell you none of them were the same at all. i think the biggest touble with them is that they aren't routine.

1) Where the attack happened (e.g. club, street, pub, alleyway, ...) On the beach. He followed me from the pub (a boardwalk pub place).

2) Time of day (day/evening/night/early hours). Dusk.

3) Number of attackers. One.

4) What the attackers were armed with (if anything). I didn't see anything, but that doesn't mean he wasn't armed.

5) Were there other people around (noone, a few, crowds)? No. The beach had just cleared out for the night. And from where I was, you couldn't see the beach from the boardwalk.

6) What was the first sign you noticed that there was going to be trouble? When I noticed him following me. I just had that "gut" feeling. But before I had the chance to run, he grabbed me.

Needless to say, he paid for it ;) I didn't have a scratch on me, thank goodness.

There were other minor things like a friend of mine was bartending at a club, and flagged this drunk. Well I don't think he was drunk, but pretty rowdy. He started arguing with him, and about ready to slug my friend. I grabbed his arm in a joint lock. He stopped shooting his mouth off right away. I escorted him to the door. We never saw him again :)

1) Where the attack happened (e.g. club, street, pub, alleyway, ...)

I've had several actually. Parking lot, and a couple in a bar.

2) Time of day (day/evening/night/early hours)

All at night.

3) Number of attackers

The parking lot was three, others were one.

4) What the attackers were armed with (if anything)

No.

5) Were there other people around (noone, a few, crowds)

The parkinmg lot, we were alone. Bars, there were a lot of people.

6) What was the first sign you noticed that there was going to be trouble?

The parking lot one..a guy tried to spit on me as I walked by their car. Sure sign of trouble! lol

The bars were all guys coming up to me and starting trouble. No prior indication before that.

My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"

1) The Parking lot of a shopping ceneter where the Movie Theater is located

2) Friday night

3) 5-10 (we had a similer number)

4) Nothing

5) My boys

6) When we saw Alkesh and all his friends before the movie. Alkesh thinks he is the WWE's The Rock, only shorter and fatter. One of my friends, Jason, doesn't get along with him very well at all, and this week had been a rough week for the 2 of them.

one example:

1) Where the attack happened (e.g. club, street, pub, alleyway, ...)

on street in town I lived

2) Time of day (day/evening/night/early hours)

afternoon

3) Number of attackers

1

4) What the attackers were armed with (if

anything)

stupid aggression!

5) Were there other people around (noone, a few, crowds)

no one

6) What was the first sign you noticed that there was going to be trouble

when he walked over all hostile swearing at me.

the fight never happened. I thought 'well pal if you want me to kick you in that will take about 3 secs. So instead I pulled the nun chukas I was carrying, swung them round in various moves and told him 'if you really want to fight me then just go ahead'.

he ran :)

pulling the nunchuakas was not to hurt him. But to end the fight without having to. I was carrying them back from a training session

700 hours of official training. Injury finished me dammit!
