Video tape your karate....

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else do this? I've done it a couple times --- I've realized I am my own worse critic --- it seems to be helping so far. I also video tape my sparring to notice any quirks...picked up a few things I need to improve.

Yes. It's a great training aid, as lon as it doesn't end up on one of those funniest video shows.

Or worse, like the Star Wars Kid! :o

My first sensei video's himself exclusively prior to training for any comps. He came 6th in last years world championships in Scotland (vets-kata). It is a good method to use. Your karate is never the way it "feels". I remember the first time I filmed myself I thought that my technique was better than what I actually saw. Recently when I filmed myself I thought my technique was worse than what I saw 8) It works just as well for basics, kata and kumite.

Also training in front of mirrors has similar merits, with the benefit of being able to correct yourself instantly. Although, not wise to watch yourself in the mirror whilst your sparring :D

I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
