The styles I have studied have groundfighting. But to answer your question it depends on the style and the instructor. Some instructors don't teach groundfighting.

It´s funny, I just came home from a trainin that mostly considered of groundfighting. We were standing in shiko-dachi and punching a partner that laid on the groung.

Yes, it has. But not that you'll out grapple a jiujitsu, wrestler or Judoka.

 

The groundfighting moves in karate are mostly to finish off a fight right there, not to spar your oponent on the ground (roll).

 

For that, you have to train on a grappling specialized system.

one of the many aims of the Karate I was taught was balance and staying on your feet. If on the ground, face the opponent and get up asap, not forgetting to try and sweep them :)

 

forget about UFC.

 

If someone got me on the ground in that way I'd be biting their legs or sqeezing their testicles so hard they would pop :P

700 hours of official training. Injury finished me dammit!
