  1. well then your lucky to have a legit wing chun sifu in your area, i suggest you try it out. i'm lucky to live in chicago where you can find just about any art you want, but others are not as fortunate. you should take advantage.
  2. so the most combat orientated version is Yoshinkan Aikido ? which one do you think is the best for practical fighting?
  3. wing chun (rating out of 10) ground fighting-0 trapping- 10 throws- 0 take downs- 6 (if that includes sweeping) fighting (full contact)- 10 punching-10 kicking- 6 weopons- 4
  4. cat stance??? wuhh? what's that? naww i dont think we do any cat stances. there's no bending over, the spine is always straight. so if you saw some wing chun practitioners bending over in some "cat" stance, then there not from a good school or there just not going by wing chun at all.
  5. Does any one know about the different variations of aikido? i know there must be at least a dozen. can any of you could tell me the differences between them? thanks
  6. yea i agree with that i have some friends in kyokoshin. it WILL hurt you to join
  7. lmao hey i respect that though. he makes some good arguments, just dont get carried away with them to the point where you dont even noe wut your talking about any more.
  8. also when i said wing chun doesnt use hip power, i meant that it just doesnt do it in the same way that karate does. of course you use every part of your body when you punch, starting from the ground up, but different arts apply it differently.
  9. if you think that the 1 inch punch was an expansion on martial arts made by bruce lee your very wrong. thats a part of wing chun and there are many wing chun masters that can execute it with a lot more force than he ever did.
  10. Hmmm...i wonder where wing chun falls in. It is a very scientific art, as you pointed out "western" arts to be. but its obviously very eastern influenced as it comes from many chinese kung fu's.
  11. yes it is true that you can step in to jam the kick while at teh same time blocking it with hands or legs, we do this in wing chun. i think the concept of aikido is great, and that it is an effective art. however, practicing and sparring is very very important and there is no substitute for it. from my understanding, some aikido schools dont do much of this but there is a more combat orientated version of aikido (forgot the particular name of it) and if you wanna see some of it, just check out some steven seagul movies
  12. you trained with medivial weopons?? wow i find that really strange using armour and all that but it sounds fun
  13. do you know anything about sambo? all i know is that it is a russian ground fighting system.
  14. its true that a lot of the power comes from the ground up, but what he was refering to sounded more like karate or something of the sort. wing chun does not use hip power.
  15. waoh waoh...i never said that. try to read back in the post. body punches have there own efficiancy but wing chun is known for being very effective against boxing. boxing punches sometimes tend to swing or arc, i think thats what that person meant to say, in which case it would open the center line, which wing chun promptly takes advantage of.
  16. wups, i accidently made the whole thing a quote, sorry
  17. woah woah your totally mixed up there buddy. wing chun punches do not come from the hip at all, your thinking of karate. wing chun uses elbow energy. this site will fully explain the mechanics of wing chun. http://wcats.com/CR-Lesson1.html
  18. haha i dont think people understood your intentions on that one. i mean you where just joking right?
  19. I disagree. I just stood up, to othe standard WC pose, and threw three punches along my centerline, using my body, and without turning out my elbows... Take a look at a Serak punch (hmm... think I have a video of one at home... I should put that up). you cant just throw 3 wing chun punches and make a judgement that another variation of the punch would be more efficiant. you would prlly have to throw at least a few thousand wc punches before the first one even lands right when you practice on the wall bag. wing chun punches take a while to develope but once you can get it right, i dont think theres any other punch like it. i dont have to reiterate all the science and physics behind it, it's all in that website i posted, take a look if you have any doubt then come to me.
  20. i cant stress enough that wing chun punches arent less powerful than any punch out there. i've seen my sifu hit a giant block of ice from inches away and the block did not just crack in a few pieces or get pushed back, as it more or less seemed to "blow up". i found a the perfect site that explains the mechanics and science of wing chun, i hope this site will help people understand more. http://wcats.com/CR-Lesson1.html p.s. i'm a soccer player too i aslo think this complements my wing chun due to its hard low kicks and sweeps.
  21. the best way to develope your punches on your own is to use a wall bag filled with beans, it costs only about 10 dollars but its all the equipment you need. it will form your knuckles the way they need to be for wing chun and power and speed will increase if you take it religiously and do your punches every day. p.s. i suggest putting it in your garage unless you wanna break a wall down in your house
  22. i like a lot of bruce lee's theories but i feel safe with my traditional wing chun kung fu thank you very much
  23. jebus i live in chicago but i would've thought finding a wing chun school in hong kong was like for a tae kwon do place over here, there like on every other corner
