White Belt (1/10)

  1. I would have to suggest there is more than one reason besides money to start your own system. To give an example I've yet to see a self-defense system soley for parapalegics. I'll also suggest new systems are started everyday whether people realize they're starting a new one or not. Futhermore as long as human beings are thinking I don't believe all concepts will ever be convered. A good martial art is alive and a growing thing unless of course the emphasis is on art and a particular old style is attempting to be maintained Rick
  2. So - paper? Sorry but I had a guy show me all kinds of certificates about being a ki master and could take a punch yada yada Sow when I asked he said I could hit him but just don't push thorugh. I was young, did what he said. Later on I thought about it and next time I saw him and he said I could hit him I walloped him a good one in the gut with a follow through and watched the surprise look on his face Like I said I was young. Later in life I'd have just noded and smiled But you brought up paper. So what kind of credentials would one need to start their own system Rick
  3. I agree that's how it should be, but most martial artists I've spoken too turn their noses up at newly developed arts. They forget at some point all martial arts was some upstart system that no one really needed if they just practiced the established system the right way Rick
  4. Okay then whats the difference between him creating his own system and getting all the credit in the world and running down Joe Blow down the street when he creates his own system? Rick
  5. I never said he invented it I said a yahoo group member said he did. I then explain how Ugg invented the first mixed martial art as a way of defeating the alpha male thrall because he wanted to mate with Yum Rick
  6. One thing a friend of mine mentioned in an article he wrote on this was to depend more on gross motor techniques as opposed to anything that took a lot fo fine motor skills Rick
  7. A few years ago I heard of a 75 year old woman who got her black belt. You're never too old Rick 48 Years young
  8. Main thing that irks me about Bruce Lee was him getting credit for doing a lot of things people had already done that weren't in the limelight. One guy in a yahoo group said he invented mixed martial arts. it's not his fault, you study philosophy in college and paraphrase and few things suddently your a sagely wise man because your an actor From a martial arts point of view He introduced kung-fu to nonchinese He wasn't afraid to be a rebel and speak out Rick
