White Belt (1/10)

  1. I am in the infant stages of starting my school. I plan on teaching at a local church while preparing to open my own location. I have begun to look at space and want 2500-3000 square feet. I am trying to get an idea how much mats are going to cost. With a school that size, about how many square feet should be your training floor? I'd appreciate any ideas or advice on layout. Thanks!!
  2. How much do you guys think would be fair for me to ask for?
  3. I posted a while ago about a kickboxing fitness class I was starting at my school. We figured out how much to charge for it, but I feel I am not being paid adequately for teaching it. I am the Program Director and run the school along with the owner. I am the only employee. I exclusively teach the 3-4 year olds (I program which had 3 kids in it when I took it over. It has more than tripled just a few months.) I currently get 10% commission of their enrollment fee when they sign up, which only amounts to $10. They pay $75 a month, plus a $40 testing fee every three months, and I don't get commission off of any of that. Secondly, I have created the new fitness kickboxing class, which I developed and teach excusively also. He provides the building, but has nothing else to do with the class. I could go and teach it at any gym. The percentage of their tuition I am currently paid is roughly around $4 per class. Not even minimum wage. I am in the process of changing the payment structure of this class from monthly to $120 for 10 classes and want to propose fair payment on my part so it is worth it for me to teach. I am paid a salary, but that amount was established before I started teaching either class. I am concerned I am not being compensated fairly for what I do now. Any thoughts??
  4. So we are adding a morning martial arts themed fitness program, which will consist of classes two days a week with lots of kickboxing bag and pad work, ab work, strength training and conditioning. No belt progression, geared to the stay at home moms including parents of current students. We have had a tremendous response to the idea, but our problem is we don't know what to charge. We are in a small, tourist driven town (one elementary school.) The Gold's Gym here charges $45 a month with a year contract ($70 month to month) for full access to the gym and all of their classes. A sister school of ours in a much larger city is charging $75 a month the same type of program, but I think that would be too high of a price here. Any thoughts anyone?
