  1. Your language sounds no better than a street thug. Where is your sense of honor and respect as a martial artist? Also if you have to bloody your partner's nose and break his teeth in a class setting, you have inadequate control. Please spare me the *tough guy* attitude -- It is counter to being a true martial artist. _________________ tkdwolf WTF 2nd Dan USKMAF 1st Dan (Hapkido) This Message was edited by: Patrick on Jul 26, 2001 1:16pm
  2. On my way to black belt in WTF, we spent very little time doing any self defense training other than one steps against a straight punch. My understanding is that TKD of years past spent much more time on realistic self defense training. I have seen a decline in classes concentrating on specific self defense techniques in all the WTF schools that I have visited. At the school where I teach now, I am teaching one class a week that is devoted to self defense -- falling techniques, punch defense, wrist grabs, bear hugs, etc. I would like to know how much time other TKD practioners train in and /teach self defense and what type of training/teaching you do. Also what kind of self defense is required on the rank tests at your school?
  3. I came up through the color belt ranks learning the Taeguek forms and I am now learning Palgwe. I enjoy the Palgwe forms better, they are more "art-like" than the Taeguek forms. I practice the WTF black belt forms Koryo, GuemGan, and Taebeck also. For Hapkido I know the four forms (WHF) that were required for first dan. The Hapkido forms are much more difficult to learn that the TKD color belt forms.
  4. I am a 2nd Dan in WTF Taekwondo and 1st Dan in Hapkido (USKMAF)
  5. Why is the current trend that TaeKwonDo black belts above 1st Dan have Gold stripes on their belts? I am a 2nd dan and will not have any stripes put on my belt. I am wearing the same black belt that I received when I became 1st Dan. I thought that once receiving a black belt, one should be at a state of mind where you do not need to show off your rank on your belt. I would prefer someone watch my ability and then decide what dan that I am. I also do not care if anyone knows whether I am a 2nd, 4th or higher dan. I have talked with many Korean Taekwondo stylists and they do not use stripes on their black belts (WTF). I also do not need the ego stroke of people seeing my belt with multiple stripes. Are not black belts supposed to be beyond needing such a stroke?
  6. I am a 2nd Dan in taekwondo and a 1st Dan in Hapkido. I have been studying taekwondo for 7 years and hapkido for 3 years, concurrently. The school that I teach at now has belts white, yellow, orange, green, purple, blue, brown, red, temp-black, and black, with no tape stripes on color belts. When I open my own school after attaining 3rd Dan, I will not have an orange, purple, or brown belt, and only have white, yellow, green, blue, red, temp-black, and black. Junior grade and senior grade between for each belt level with senior having stripe of next color. I consider orange, purple, and brown as "Japanese" rank colors.
