Hmm a good gi. Hard to find. I've got one that was tailored for me. It's from cotton, i don't stant any "polyesters" and I look like a princess in it I'll have to buy another but I gues it won't look that good. KickChick said they have to put patches with thei school signs on it. We here "stand" only the manufacturer's patch. In this part of Europe shotokan practitioners have got to keep their gis clean of any badges or patches. Plain white.

Unfortunatelly sometimes the AntiVirus doesn't detect anything suspicious until it's too late. It'a a shame things like this ever happen. whenever an event like this happens someone has to sufer and to lose some important things ... informations or the PC

I don't have any tattoos, but I'd like something little and meaningful, maybe on my right ankle. Last year I planned to have a tattoo and do bungee jumping. Unfortunatelly I haven't done any of them. Maybe next year

Don't start karate just too fight. There's more into it than fighting techniques. You'll have to prepare yourself for another way of life in order to gain from Karate all those things. When you'll feel that you are ready for the change ... then come into our world. You won't regret

Well ... if we came to the praising thing ... CONGRATULATIONS patrick ... again I visit other forums too, including my own which is in Romanian ... sorry ... The atmosphere here is very relaxed ... the forums are well moderated and us, the members have a great deal of liberty ... and we are not threatened with banning such ... elsewhere Coming back to the thread ... i usually go to View your posts in order to see what's new on the topics I read and answered ... and afterwards the good ole index

Taikudo-ka: You are right. Forunatelly the time that remains for me is enough in order to read about karate (and not only this) and to work on my little site that's about karate.

DON'T SIGN ... I didn't have to sign anything and God knows I'll won't leave school. BUT if I'd like to do this, I'll be free to go on my way. This signing thing is unusual ... guess those in your school are not that confident in their ability to keep you interested. Your agreement to come to that school should be like a love story ... you should be able to go elsewhere when the feeling is gone.

Unfortunatelly the guys there (JKA and the others) are the first ones who forgot abot the DO, you know the one in KARATEDO. It should mean more than just POLITICS ... because this is it ... all the problems come from politics. The big organizations are runned almost like corporations, they want a very big "slice" from the "bread" of clients. Who gets the biggest share would do great. It's about power and sometimes about ego. It happend in Japan, in my country an in yours ... Karate is represented by HUMANS ... and they are ... human

How on Earth is this guy still teaching? I've heard stories like this and I believed them as I do now. Fortunatelly I 've never had this kind of experience. Glad you made it elsewhere. He he guess he was angry Hope somebody would do something in his case

"Brind a Buddy" ... great idea. We should do this in our dojo. Guess for all those I brought in I should receive some money

Grading is indeed difficult and I think this is where you can tell a good instructor from the others. In my opinion grading is kind of a ceremony, because the real grading should be done the entire time. A good sensei would know if a certain student is good enough to "qualify" to the next level, if the guy came to train, struggled to learn and achieved the knowledge necessary to grade. The day of the exam should be indeed important, but the instructor should have made his opinion about everyone. To grade somebody only taking into consideration the exam could be a little "shallow". Maybe the guy is in a good form, but he really wouldn't deserve the "merit", while another could be in a bad day, though he is quite proficient. Well it happend to me ... had problema with both legs (some strained muscles) and still decided to come to the exam. I thought I should try at least, although the pain was serious. I've damaged one leg at the las training session, prior to the test and the second in the "big day". I performed OK, dodn't make mistakes, but I couldn't move as fast and powerful as I used to. Still I graded, because I was Ok at the exam, but I trained very hard all the time. Guess it counts ... Sensei still doesn't know I had those problems

I don't know if my sensei is the best, but honestly I don't care. What I like regardin his person is enough for me to long to get in his dojo. He is a kind person, sometimes severe, but only when he has got to act like this, he is funny and makes jokes (well thata OK, because I do this too ), he is very good, knows how to get respect although he never acts like a God . I like him also because he is an intelligent person (always respected this), graduated two colleges, he is also a teacher at the University ... so on ...so on ...

Great link. I've used their site for almost 2 years. The katas are great. They are performed by those from JKA. One thought though ... the katas are performed slowly so we may learn better. Don't expect your performance to look this way You'll have to work with your sensei in order to perform katas with rhytm. For start the katas are OK. And as another member said, you can burn a CD with them and so you'll have a quality one http://www.shorinryu.dk/html/indexe.htm Another link. For Shorin katas. The first link, http://ctr.usf.edu/shotokan/kata.html is for SHOTOKAN katas.

We do 4 sessions a week each of them is one hour and a half long. I train in shotokan and guess I'll try to find some place to work out too because I still have 3 days a week when I'm free and this freedom I don't like
