Training before a fight
ICE replied to BladeLee's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
i Think that the best thing in the way of sparing (i use it for boxing but will still work in kickboxing) get three friends or trainning parteners preferably one small and fast one Average and one big and strong and go 6 rounds in the ring (full contact) light weight first middle weight second heavy weight 3rd and do 6 rounds of 3min with 30sec break that usually tones your skill a bit. -
haha my post looked all stuffed up i put my own message in part of the quote maybee i should not try the fancier stuff umm he's a legend in point sparing well that doesnt exactly make him a good fighter.

i like to judge how skillfull my oponent is then take stance if i have time. if the attacker is just an ordinary person or someone that i fell confident i can beat i tak a south port boxing stance exept i have my body more side on and i convert to back stance as i move in. if there more experienced ie a proper streetfighter or martial artis i take a right back stance with my left hand open and forward and my right shut and chambered near my head my fornuckle is about a fists distance away from my eye with my elbow slightly down from the hight of my hand.

oh damn those are some long posts i think iv forgoten the first hal but there are a few things in there that i wasnt happy with an i think i need to get them off my chest 1. i fully agree with Martial artist i think that the people that are arguing with him need to have a bit more of a think before they post again. 2. If someone took Tae-Bo or aerobic kickboxing with the intent of using it to inflict bodily damage, then actually used it to effectively beat people to death, What then? Wouldn't that fit your definition? im sorry but that just wont happen iv seen what they do in those tae bo classes and that is not combat oh i just realised most of what ive said has already been said owell youl just know i think the same i can be bothered reading the rest so ill leave it at that

i think that the most inportant thing in real fights or full contact matches it to keep your cool and stay focused so many people panice and dont think about what they are doing. since most has alredy been said i think ill say something about when your losing ( not that i lose of course ) if your are losing it helps to psyc your oppenet out by saying things like that all you go and laughing when they get a good one through trying to give them the impression that your only toying with them then if you can studying them and find a weakness . everyone has one. of corse this is good in theory trying to do it in the middle of a match is alot harder than i make it sound.

ok ill see if i can explain a few but some im not 100% sure about and i dont want to get mixed up and come of sounding like a fool. Knife hand - id asum would be to strike with the pinkey edge of your hand but that term is quite broad and could also mean striking with the other side (thumb tucked in) or finger tips hammer fist- is were you strike with the bottom of your fist (ie if you were to shut your hand its the pinkey or knife edge of your hand is) usually used on a downward motion but can be used to the side. palm strike- is a normal punch only it with an open hand and you hit with the base of the palm. over hand left- i THINK is were you bring your hand up higher than oponents guard and punch down towards thier face. Hook kick - is like doing a side kick(lets just say right leg) a bit to the left of the tartget then just before you get full extension of the leg you pull back your heel toward the knee hitting the target with the back of your heel(thats probably not the best explaination) intercepting kick - i thinks thats were you do like a small low powerd kick and stop your oppenet from kicking i think that your suposed to sort of kick thier leg as they chamber it or just start their kick. um the quick advance id say would probably be just rushing in on your openent and crowding his guard some of them could be a bit wrong and im not to sure on the others.

I once trained with a man who said he studied combat Taekwondo witch he said was used by the korean elite marines and that elusive tiger brigade (not sure on thier actual name) but i have since lost contact with this man. i was very impresed with what he taught me and since then i have been looking for a place that teaches Taekwon do like this. so far i have only found competitions style Taekwon do academies witch i personally think is useless (dont mean to offend anyone) but if anyone knows of an academy\centre etc that teaches combat Taekwon do could they let me know

Does everyone hate their gi/dobok?
ICE replied to rabid hamster's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well i think that even if you dont like the way your dogi\gi\tunick\uniform whatever you would like to call it, no mater what it looks like fells like etc you should still wear it with pride and respect what it stands for oh and by the way i like have two custom made uniforms one white and one blue and i like them both. -
i think the same as most and fighting should be avoided but i am also a big believer in self defence an i remember going to school and seeing the exact same situations only at my school i didnt end there most people would then go home and get older brother or cousin involved and it would grow from there. as for your right hook theory maybee you should consider giving the a quick left jab first just to occupie them so they dont see the right coming. i dont know how skillfull you are so im asuming you do know something about fighting. headbutts can be very affective but if your going to do it do it fast and when least expected because your placing the most valuable part of your body into the mix. just one last thing for you to think about since you said you have a decent right hook if you are right in close (face to face) consider steping back with the left and as you do come across the body with a right elbow people never see this coming or expect it and it should throw them off balance and give you enough time to come back through with a big side kick or whatever you want. _________________ Pain is just an excuse to stop made by your mind [ This Message was edited by: ICE on 2002-08-03 08:13 ]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T and ignorance
ICE replied to DeeLovesKarate's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
im new here and decided to start in this thread but i think that this is a universal problem with society and i find the biggest problem lies with groups of youths. i have a very short temper and it doesnt take much to throw me over the edge, but i was on my way home from a tainning session and because my home is only about 500 meters away from the dojo i just run home and on my way i was confronted by a group of youths that thought they could take me (iv no idea why i was bigger than all of them and had a black belt wraped around my waist but still) i tried to refrain from fighting but in the end had no choice as they procceded to run along side me and try to trip me up eventually i stopped and the leader or whatever you would call him tryed to size up and head butt me.... long story short his head came of second best and so did the other 4... i have had many fellow students and martial artists iv meet tell me similar stories about how they had to defend them self against a disrespectfull or arogant members of the society namly younger people and general scum but youd think that they would learn , i mean how many times do you have to get hurt to learn taunting a martial artsist is not a good idea anyway just thought that story might be relevant
