White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. These stories remind me of when my gym used to be located next to a football club at the under 16's training time and we'd get all these punks coming and heckling us, so our instructor goes out (he's a big intimidating guy) and he asks them "what do you find so funny" and they all suddenly lose there nerve and are going "aah I dunno" and then one kid try's to grab my instructors belt and before he can reach the belt my instuctors got hold of his arm and proceeds to scare the hell out of this little kid. Aah Memories, my friend and i being younger than these teenagers at the time were quite amused.
  2. umm this is just one I do, not sure if you'll like it. 60, 45, 30 front leg kicks. You have a small pad (about 20*10cm) either someone holding it or it attached to something. I use front snap kick, turning kick/roundhouse and side kick all off the front leg. So start off turning kick for example, assume your stance, and kick with correct technique 60 times, no rest, 45 kicks correct technique, 15 sec rest (if needed), 30 kicks correct technique, swap legs, same thing, change kick, do it all over again. And once this can be done semi-easily you try and see how many kicks (correct technique) you can do in 60, 45, 30 seconds. Most important thing is correct technique since 1000 kicks done incorrectly is much worse than no kicks at all. The daughter of the guy i train with can do 90+ front leg turning kicks (proper technique) without ever putting her leg down in under 45 seconds (damn i wish i could do that). Oh just thought i'd add that the reason i do them all off the front leg is because most people don't learn the front leg and once you develop the front leg technique you've already got the back leg since all back leg kicks have to move into the same position anyway. 3. To those of you who live in Australia i was just wondering what your impression of bob jones and his schools are. A guy i train with trained in Muay Thai at Bob Jones and recons that Bob Jones teaches realistic and un-watered down Muay Thai, and a friend of my dad believes he is a crook. So just wanting people's impressions. Thanks.
  4. woops i mean submission fighter if your still around could you tell me where you saw that video? (if you're still around, the post was awhile ago)
  5. this is just a question that roughly fits in and i couldn't be bothered starting a new thread, is it true that in WTF tournaments (official) that you can not strike with the hands? And that in some gyms they've completely abolished the side kick because it's not fast enough for tournaments, if that is true it seems idiotic to me as sidekick is supposed to be a power kick but i can see as how it may not be useful in scoring points. Aah i've gone off on a tangent again sorry but if you could answer the first question please. Just thought i'd tack on that i belong to a taekwondo organization that does not allow tournaments which i feel can be a good and a bad thing. 6. tessone, if you see this could you please tell me where you saw the korean tigers video?
  7. that plain and simple is exactly how i wanted to put it but i was trying to be objective, but really i think your definition is perfect KickChick i was just worried since usually whenever i mention WTF is a sport, WTF enthusiasts get all up in arms about it and tell me i know nothing and that General Choi was just too scared to stay in the WTF cause everyone was better than him or something like that. I'm glad you said it straight.
  8. I believe Jhoon Rhee was,at one time, General Choi's leading disciple and had an 8th dan from General Choi but General Choi and most of the Rhee's had different ideas on where taekwondo was headed. The Rhee's left and formed there own organization/s. Jhoon Rhee is no longer part of the ITF. And after talking to a friend i believe Jhoon Rhee after getting his 8th dan (he may have even gotten 9th, the same level general choi but i'm not sure) he became a 10th dan in his own style (which seems odd to me since 9 is the highest in taekwondo and such a sacred number) but there is no doubt Jhoon Rhee is very impressive, even though he would be in his 80's he can still do 100 pushups in under 1 minute. Aah well that was all different points jumbled together and i'm not 100% sure if it's all true so please correct me if it's not, umm damn this seems like a long post, aah i'm just making it long...
  9. sorry to bring this one out of the grave but i would like to now this aswell. Did he just self promote himself?
  10. This is mostly just my opinion here's some main points. It depends who you ask, someone from ITF will tell you ITF is great and WTF is pathetic and someone from the WTF will tell you the ITF is crap. WTF stands for World Taekwondo Federation and ITF stands for International Taekwondo Federation. General Choi (Father of Taekwondo who just recently passed away) first created the WTF but because of political reasons he left and created the ITF. WTF is more the sports version and ITF a fighting version but many gyms are leaning more towards the sporting side now. In general i find that WTF people are better athletes with more physical conditioning and ITF put more emphasis on technique. But these are just my opinions and people from both Federation's will probably say i'm completely wrong and there's is the best style and the otherone is all crap.
  11. thankyou very much warhammer
  12. i'm probably going to be the one filling up this thread asking questions but just out of curiosity, is Rhee the Korean version for the family name Lee?
  13. aah sorry about spelling i wasn't thinking properly. I was just sort of wondering if anyone knows anything about his past. I know he was part of the ten? tigers brigade or something like that (sorry can't remember exactly how many there were) which was a group of general choi's disciples who fought in the vietnam war. And apparently he was very feared in the vietnam war. Does anyone know any more background info because it's very hard to find out Mr. Rhee's background as he does not often talk about it and will not even say his age
  14. I was just wondering what peoples impressions of Mr. Chon Chul Rhee are? and any background information would be great
