  1. Well, we all know that the late Bruce Lee, who compiled the information, wrote books, and then made Gung-Fu, Formally studied Wing Chun with The late Yip Man. But now comes a time where I have to decide...Gung-Fu..or Wing Chun? I know they are close to each other, but Im looking for a martial art that incoporates self-defense,but also inflicts as much damage as possible on my attacker. There is also a Ninjitsu Dojo nearby that only trains (completely non-competitive), but im not that much of a fit person (I tire easily, but in shape , im not half-bad), will that effect my training if I enroll into those classes?. Thanks
  2. I would recommend that you practice in your basement (if you have an unfinished basement) see those pink stuffings on the wall? try to aim for them about 50 times a day (warm up first,so your legs dont experience sudden strong pulls on the muscles),so your feet get used to that angle, instead of practicing on a punch bag or kick bag,cuz if your using a kick bag, most of the time you'll kick in the middle, but when you kick on the pink stuffing on the basement walls, theres that bunch of space that you wouldnt have between your legs that you wouldnt have with a kick bag,do you see my point?
  3. Im just gonna start shooting questions at you -Do you get funded (for traveling) by WTF when you go to Bejing in 2008 or do you have to pay the tickets your self? athletes have special accomidations? -What are the requirements to go to Bejing 2008? what about groups or divisions,is it by age or weight? -I know I sound like a newb,( I am) are there other events? like kata forms and grappling? or is it just sparring? -are you picked when you become a national champion or do you go if you want to? thanks for answering my newbish questions
  4. yeah, it does,bu it mostly talk's about the fitness program and it doesnt state which type of martial art styke their teaching
  5. ok,many people ask me,what kind of karate do you do? So I just say traditional Japanese Karate, but I still cant seem to find what its really alled, can you guys help? Im going to say all the ranks and katas that are stated inside the starting paper I was given: Taikyoku Gedan:White belt.....blah blah blah.....This is thefirst pattern taught to new students involved in the Goju Ryu karate system DAN-GUN: Yellow belt, named after DAN-GUN,founder of korea...blah blah blah....this pattern is know to yellow belts,Tae Kwon Do system Heian Yodan: one of the five heian forms created by yatsume Itosuwho introduced SHOTOKAN karate into japnese High schools, Heian Yodan is taught at orange belt level Won-Hyo: Taught at green belt level Hwa-Rang: blah blah blah....The 29 movements refer to the 29th infantry division where Tae KWON DO developed into maturity,Hwa-Rang is taught at Blue belt level Toi-Gye: Taught at red belt level Choong Moo: taught at end of red belt/beginning of Black Belt Belt Levels: WHITE BELT YELLOW BELT ORANGE BELT GREEN BELT BLUE BELT BROWN BELT RED BELT BLACK BELT striping methods(grading stripes): 1st stripe:proficiency in Belt level's Routine 2nd stripe:Proficiency in Belt Level's Kata 3rd stripe:Proficiency of self-defense
  6. congratulations on reaching orange belt ,I hope I can catch up soon (Im yellow)! wish you all the best in your new belt level!
  7. I keep seeing people that are in the ITF,WTF,IKGO and so on, what do these organizations do? and are there any in Canada?
  8. I wake up at 5:00,exercise for an hour,wall kicks(5 minutes), doing squats(5 minutes), punching the bag(5 minutes),sit ups(5 minutes),push ups(5 minutes),and run on the treadmill (35 minutes),so thats an hour,take a shower,and watch last night's re-run of family guy at 6:30
  9. I think the "JR" black belts in my dojo are harder to relate to than anyone Ive seen, I remember asking a JR blackbelt for help with my kata and he said:"ask te instructor when its during class time, leave me alone, your still a yellow belt",so I went to an older black belt (between 29 and 45) and he said:"show it to me,lets see where you know it up to" ,so I think the JRs are curt and care nothing more than the embroidery on their black belts and patches on their shoulders, while the more mature and older ones have more respect for the years and dedication it took them to reach their level of exellence, and have ALOT of respect for others, and the only black belt JRs that even tried to help me were 2 out of the 25 in the whole dojo! and female Jr blackbelts or any other senior ranked belt level (Brown or blue or red) tend to listen and help me more than the senior ranked students who are males, whys that? I guess I do look manly with 3 pounds shaved off, huh?
  10. aye!,Im from the highlands, lad! thats Canada , anyways,we have private lessons for everything here, from piano to rifle classes (BB and Co2),but when you tell someone you have "private lessons", they think youre some snotty spoiled rich brat,so I just take regular classes and feel as if Im part of a team, but Id recommend the Private Lessons if you have the money for it,its for a good price, find an instructor who cares more about what hes teaching you,and not just the cha-ching
  11. you do know trad.Japanese karate isnt all but belts, coorect me if Im mistaken, but isnt the founder of shotokan karate first made the traditional version of karate blending it with okinawan karate? so karate isnt all but belts, its a journey of self-discovery,self-respect and self-exploration,its a art where you unlock what your capable of,not just punching and kicking (not saying KB is bad for you) a bag, know what I mean?
  12. I asked the adult that was attending where he got it from and he said it was gift, but he let me try it on! the thing was almost like running around as if there was no Gi top on my body, and Ive seen him using it alot even though he has 2 other Gis,so it isnt heavy at all,its actually VERY light weight and I didnt see rips anywhere on the Gi top,so you guys figure it out yet? Im thinking the material they use in the fuzzy type of towels ( I forgot what its called )
  13. Id recommend traditional Japanese Karate,Im in normal weight (kinda,Im packed with an extra 10 pounds I think ) ,I have regular limbs, and Ive seen people from 4 to 58 come to this dojo's style, and trust me,they ALL vary, some tall, some are as thin as a twig! some are wide (no offence to who is) and can still do back-rolls like others, but the exercises feel like a burden to them, anyways,I highly recommend TRADITIONAL JAPANESE KARATE
  14. I asked my father recently (Orthopeadic surgeon) and he said that many athletes in sports like soccer or track and field that add too much pressure to their most used body part, feet for soccer and so on,tend to develop Orthopaedic problems in joints
