Yellow Belt

Yellow Belt (2/10)

  1. Is it actually good for you or not? I keep hearing conflicting stories about it.
  2. Like chivalry its dead. To be completely honest I saw the reality TV show Ulitimate Fighter for the first time a few days ago and I was really dissapointed. These guys are supposed to be strongest guys in the world and they act like a bunch of teenagers. This girls horse fell over and they all stood there and stared at it cause "Whaahh!! Im the strongest fighter in the world; but I don't wanna get hurt by the horse." I think the ancient masters probably turned over in there graves when they saw these, "world champions". Back to the question at hand, I think people wanna package it and sell it as a commodity like everything else and they don't particularly care if its right or not as long as people buy it. Hope this helps.
  3. First thing is to find an instructor. If not I would recomend you take up an empty hand style since a lot of the same rules for weapons apply to empty handed fighting as well. I would recomend the bo staff. Its a well versitile and common wepon. Its also very easy find information on and a lot of the techniques can be used with other weapons as well (such as the sword, spear, oar..etc).
  4. Ive heard of it. If I remember correctly its simmilar to Goju system.
  5. Tornadoes have been known to drive pieces of straw straight into tree trunks. So I seriously doubt the molecular makeup of the steel in a weapon really matters agains a bullet.
  6. I don't think Ive developed a definitive signiture move yet. (Is that unusuall for someone whos going for black in 5ish or so weeks?) I do like the hop in front kick and then follow it with two ridge hands. The first being about 3/4 speed and second being full speed. It seems to work.
  7. Okay guys I was just thinking about buying a folded steel Katana and I was wondering about the handle. Ive always had the regular silk nylon wrapping; but I prefer the feel of leather. I think it feels better and molds well to my hand. I was wondering though if there is a major downside to having a leather type of tsuka, like does it degrage over time or come unwrapped very easily. I might just be parranoid; but I need to know before I make an investment. And while im at it I know this is off subject; but what is so special about Damascus steel aside from it being very pretty. Is it supposed to be stronger or something?
  8. I would like to train in Ninjutsu; but I can't find any schools. Theyre hidden...like the ninja.
  9. I also read that article as well. Its funny that even for most of us living in america that we come from europe yet for the most part we know next to nothing about how our ancestors used there weapons. Its nice to read about that sometimes.
  10. Hakamas work pretty well and you should use the tassel on the sword to help hold it in place. If anything tie your belt a little tighter than usuall.
  11. I agree it would be better to have a full tang; but if your only demonstrating then it wouldn't be that bad. Little pricy though I thought.
  12. Yeah I want to be a 10th dan in the long lost system of rex kwon do.
  13. Whoah man what kind of home depo do you have over there? lol
  14. I have mixed feelings about this. I think its a good idea of what they are doing here and it gives a standard by which to judge a dojo by; but on the flip side Americans are notorious for Mc Donaldizing everything they get there hands on. Ive got a serious problem with getting a 2nd degree in only 4 years especially when Ive been training for over 3 and a half and my first degree is comming up in a few months. I think its a good idea; but It could easily backfire. Well just have to wait and see.
