  1. i take wild punch to mean a big unamed wide swing you see in street fights. I would first of all move out the way. thats the easiest. Or I'd throw a faster more direct straight punch. Or you could bum rush and take them down. Or get them in a choke. But, its so easy to just move out the way and avoid all the troubles.
  2. its the individual, some people just bleed easier. I dont think a resistance builds up in the nose, if anything it'll decrease with more damage.
  3. well, one, you might have just been real tired and puked, or the adernaline level reached such a high level you puked, or you were so nervous you puked, or you had recieved a good bang to the head but has so much adernaline you didnt know you got hit so hard and you really had a concussion and puked. Last part is being serious. Head injuries can cause vomiting and nausea.
  4. follow throught and destroy that knee. (For a roundhouse). dont believe me get some wood and try breaking it, once by snapping and one by going through. I wouldn't snap a round house if i was breaking a knee though. For a side kick or a front kick, since those a straight kicks I would snap them if close range but if i had some space and they guy was just standing their, I'd thrust all the way through. Then again, breaking a knee isnt as easy as it seems. I guess it be easy if they were sitting and had their leg straight propped on a chair and you just kicked it. but when they are actually standing upright and walking and the knee is not straight, it is different. If you don't think I'm right you can go around kicking people's knees until you find a version that works for you. JUST KIDDING. Seriously.   5. its like that in every sport. Its harder to do in sparring but it does happen their. In kata, I've seen some things I could not believe. Its sickening and sad but hey, If you just utterly destroy the competition then even then, they can't deny you your win.
  6. be like a runner, stay on the balls of your feet and push off really hard. Go so fast that if you miss you'll fly out the ring basically. Lol. Ok, maybe thats a lil too much? But thats how you do it in point sparring. You do it all the time, especially after throwing some kicks, you come down and before your leg even hits the ground you start your backfist and soon as your leg hits you push off as hard as you can. One big thing is one good kick will hurt. and hurt bad. Imagine, blitzing right into a side kick. Ouch. but it happens, even to the best of peeps. Watch how others do it in national events. I keep saying, the best place to learn is to watch the finals.
  7. you dont really have to bounce like high you know. bouncing means staying light on your feet. but yes, when you fight bounce. dont get yourself stuck in a fixed stance. you can't move as fast and you moves become easier to see comming. bouncing adds an element of faking much better. you can bounce in a rhythm and then just a lil flinch or change in rythm is enough to fake a lot of people. so bounce bounce flinch, boom then go. thats just a lil example. the more mobile you can get the better. oh yeah, heels on ground is a no no. too slow to move and it doesnt give you more power. You can push of your toes but not your heels. If you do bounce in one place and never move yes you will get destroyed but the whole point of bouncing is not bouncing in one place, its bouncing as you are moving around the ring. I thought the days of fighting in a fixed traditional stance with your heels planted firmly was done away with when brue lee came. [ This Message was edited by: crazydee on 2002-06-01 18:06 ]
  8. go to a national event, watch them, buy some videos of past national events. Copy moves and make your own kata. Or copy a traditional one from another style. All you need is a video. Just dont copy some freestyle guys form move for move.
  9. hook kick is a very very effective move. I will be explaining the normal hook, the spinning is a whole other story. Personally I find a hook kick most effective in point fighting as a defensive weapon. Someone is pulling into you with a bunch of kicks, lean back real far and pull a hook on them. the lower you can get your head to the ground the better. aim for the head. It works good if your bodies are facing the same directions. Example, you are right side foward and they are left side, but it works no matter which way they are standing if you aim for the head. their are veriations, you can cross a hook and ax kick and that move right there has won me many fights. I kinda described it in another post and maybe I'll make a topic just on that kick for those interested. The more you know, the better. Oh yeah, one more thing, hook kick works good on most dashes, including dash backfists, or any punch really. Also try a lil side step at an angle when they dash in before you throw the hook kick. I know I missed a lot of other lil technical issues with the hook kick but in time and practice most people figure it out on their own and develope their own ways of using the hook kick.
  10. Well, like someone else said, just dont draw blood and it should be ok. So dont smash their nose into their brain. as for the other part, hands always up. move your head constantly so its not a big stationary target. avoid moving straight back. circle around. fake one direction and dash to another.
  11. hmm, i think the best thing to do is watch an competition then. a national event or something, watch the finals. you'll get a good idea then.
  12. competitions are great, they force you to keep in shape and train harder. Meet new peeps, travel the country or world. Make new friends new connections, see new things, learn more styles. Knowledge is power.
  13. preparing for the big day. well, of course all the usual training. if you are doing kata you should practice it so much that you can do it in your sleep perfectly. but thats enough about the training part. I think the mental part is the killer. Nothing can stop the nervousness. Get a good nites sleep, SUPER important. Eat a good breakfast, no greasy fatty crap like bacon and sausages. Fruits and toast, is good. Make sure you're wide awake. Warm up good before you compete. Go through your routine again but do not wear yourself out. Take some deep breaths. Who knows, maybe when you walk into that ring and everyone is staring at you you'll actually like it and show everyone you are the man. Some people are just like that, once they get into the ring, its a different mind set. I think most kata champions, they love to get in the ring because its a time where they can show everyone how good they are. But, if this doesnt happen for you try clearing your mind of all the crowd, the judges, everything and just focus on your routine as if you were the only one there. Just remember to come back to reality when you are done and it'll be all good. And don't worry, the more you do it the easier it'll be.
  14. best way to use an ax kick is to aim at the face. use it to build foward momentum and follow with a quick one two, backfist middlepunch. Also, a good thing to do is don't do an ax kick that goes straight up and down. A more effective one is one that is angled slightly, very hard to describe i guess in writing but i'm sure you'll see people in tournaments do it. I'll try to explain here. instead of throwing your leg straight above the target and straight down, angle it a lil and bring it down in an angle. Ex. , if you were leftside fwd and you do an ax kick with ur back leg and you aim for your opponents head. throw your leg up a lil to the left of their head (your left) and whip it down and an angle going towards your right. A very good techniqe to use which is harder to block than a normal ax kick. not saying don't use the normal one ever, just giving you some more tools to use.
  15. point fight is nothing like a street fight. but don't go off saying a point fighter can't street fight. It's 2 different things. You know, some people can actually do it all. You do get bad habits from point fighting, learning too many rules and actually you might find yourself obeying them in a real fight (scary thought). however, you do get speed, your reaction time is a lot better. Being able to take a hit is based on the person, some people are just wimps. Just remember martial arts was made for self defense and not scoring points, train hard in point fighting but never stop training for the real thing.
