White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. Well it appears that all pretty much agree the UFC is not like a real fight. Its a interesting topic to discuss. What made me think of taking more then one attacker was reading one of the gracie books. They claimed that it usually does not happen that way (taking more then one attacker)and they went on with something about keeping kicking the snot out of 4 men stuff in hollywood. Then again they are promoting BJJ.
  2. I have not been in one thankfully...I just don't have the way about me that ticks alot of people off (at least not offline). I just was wondering in real fight from you're experience does it 1. go to the ground 2. Can you realistically take more then one attacker. 3. Is the UFC a fairly close guide to what to expect a attack on the street or in you're apartment whatever to look like? For instance I do not see alot of the hapkido techniques I once took in the octagon. Not that I am an expert I just see more grappling simple kicking and punching. Thanks:)
  3. Taikudo-ka: Bruce lee was a talented fighter, probably the best conditioned martial artist in a very long time. He was ahead of time in regards to conditioning I just would not rely on some college fight he was supposedly involved in:) think about this Bruce vs. prominant member of Gracie family. My money is not on Bruce
  4. I used to train with guy who knew it. He kicked my rear all the time. And he won several real street brawls with it too. Its good for bar type fighting. Very effective fighting style. I don't know about these Bruce lee quotes becasue I see him as more of a movie star then street fighter or even competition fighter.
  5. Yep he said mace was the worst if I remember correctly... even worse then then getting electricuted with that tazer gun thing.. LOL
  6. I have a friend who does I would almost take that over a gun. He has a special military kind that is not available to public in my state. He sprayed a little on a napkin. It was about the worst feeling I ever had. Nobody on this planet is tough enough to take a shot of that in the face and still fight. JMO
  7. I see nothing wrong with dogs "tearing up foxes". To a dog murder and rape is ok..in nature a fox will feast on its prey BEFORE the animal is even dead. As someone who keeps livestock I have lost 40 chicks in one night last year alone. A few weeks later I had 20 adult chickens killed. Predator did this BRUTALLY just for the joy of it took one left the rest. I had to finish off what was left of some them. To put them out of their misery.
  8. Thanks for the replys:) Bon I was told this by a sensei "Brazilian- Representative systems would be Gracie Jiujitsu, and Machado Jiujitsu. Brazilian Jiujitsu is not a traditional or even a modern Jujutsu system. Its foundation are based on Kodokan Judo, not traditional Jujutsu, and it primary focus is on no-holds-barred tournaments, not self-defense." I don't know how true that is. Trying to learn all I can about it:) Thanks again all for the welcome.
  9. ? which do you think is better for self defense? I have been told the modern forms of jiujitsu are better for self defense then Brazillian which tends to be geared more towards no holds barred competition. Its hard to know who to believe since both parties concider their art the best at self defense:) Or anything for that matter.
  10. I was taking TKD I was only a white belt they put me with another white belt who was also a former wing chun (sp?) student. He was from the bronx, any way he ended up cracking two of my ribs. I was thought he was a real a$$hole, pardon my language. But a couple days later we were talking and I relised thats how they trained in wing chun. You just go all out, only if you have to fight. And boy could he fight. On the street and in the class. I couldn't face him after two knock downs. He ended up taking on a 3rd degree black belt and winning in our class..and he gave are best students a sparring event from hell. ANd it turned out he was only regarded as about average in his school. His teacher was this chinese man who was apparently one BAD dude. Anyway you can't go wrong with Wing chun, thats the only kung fu I have seen. One fight I would like to see is Wing chun vs. BJJ.
  11. Hi I have heard of 80 year old masters able to throw around their students I guess they tap into "Chi energy". So another words they are better at age 80 then at age 30 is there any truth to this? Just wondering. I noticed in my hapkido and tae kwon do I used to take you don't see very many people over age 50... you do but they usually just teach without a lot of fighting. Just wondering how kung fu masters can keep going that long into their lives.
  12. I first should state that I do not have good periferal vision (partially blind). I have taken tae kwon do and hapkido in the past, had to stop do to job:) But I have been really impressed with the UFC fights I have seen. The type of art I am looking for is one that focuses on real life fights and does not waste a lot of time with anything else. One that is fairly easy to learn. And one that can take into account my not so good eyesite. I don't have to be the greatest martial artist on the street just want to know how to really put the HURT on anyone that tries to kill me. Any way thanks for any feed back:)
