I agree with ken, that in order to stop the grappler you have to understand what he is trying to do. Do either of you guys or anyone no anything about shootboxing?
If you are going to kick, just make sure that you snap it back , and don't leave it hanging in the air. In sparring you might be lucky and get away with it, but in a street fight that is how you will end up on the ground.
Keeping your chin down isn't advice. it's common sense. I didn't say I was getting killed, it's just a weakness. Does anyone have any good head movement drills , and also drills to make your opponent miss?
I find that I have problems with opponents who use a lot of uppercut / hook combinations when they are in tight. I usually try to throw a quicker hook then they do, or make the uppercut miss and throw a strong jabb or straight right hand to the chin. I'm interested in what other people would do in the same situation?????
don't worry about what kind of shape your in to start! That's what the first few belts are for...... working on flexability and getting into shape. Once you get into it you will love it
If you can find it the movie is called ' The Deadliest Art'. It is a documentary showing the greatest fight clips out of martial arts movies .. some pretty cheesy but some very good. One fight sequence with jackie chan vs. benny 'the jet' urquidez is the most amazing one I have ever seen
shadow sparring is a warm up where you just show technique, no actual contact( very light). just to get body tempature up , work on foot work and body positioning
