  1. Yeah your right , low slant kicks can be effective and fairly simple to exicute I also forgot to mention Knees in my last post those can be very effective when used right also Cheers bushido_man96!
  2. My opinion, Leave kicks to somebody else, yeah they're powerful, yes they'll hurt, but so will a good hook punch kicks are slow (relatively) and easier to block/counter than hands. In the time it takes for somebody to learn how to exicute a good kick that can actually be used in a self defense situation, without thinking, on instict alone, he could have already learned how to exicute many other techniques that are far simpler and therfore less likely to go wrong when the moment is upon them. Sticking your thumb halfway into somebodies eye socket is going to stop a fight just as quick if not quicker than a round house kick, that you have to set -up/wait for. Not to mention its easy to learn and its already instinct. of course this is just one example and my opinion at that, and it would also depend on what your calling a "self defense" situation everbody has their own interpitation of this phrase. For me, I'm not going to fight unless it's to the point that I have to rip out a few eyes to settle it, cause other wise its just not worth it, but thats me
  3. Thanks Bushido_man96 I have given some thought to security at some places, not particularly malls, but hey what ever brings in the bread I'll send Elbows_and_Knees a message and see if he would be so kind as to grace me with some of his knowledge. Sounds like a very good plan Kieran Lilith, I might have to take your idea, so watch your back
  4. I'm currently going through the last few years of highschool and naturally I'm looking towards the future, mainly jobs. I would love to make a living doing what I love (martail arts) but realize that the job pool isn't really that large. I am planning on opening my own school later in life when I have enough knowlegde and capitail to do so.But before that I need something else. Getting to the point, I'm looking for something realated to martial arts, such as, law enforcement, bouncer, bodyguard, etc. Money is lower on my priority list but would be nice to have , lol So if any of you that have these sorts of jobs or know anything about them could give me some choices i might have, and the pros and cons of said choices, I would be very grateful. As a side note I have been doing martail arts steady for four years now, and am willing to devote my life to it, if some of you would be conserned with this possibly just being a fantasy, I also realize the risk involved with these jobs and am willing to take these risks. P.S. If I have put this in the wrong category or am violating any foroum rules please notify me and I'll change my post ASAP. Thank you all for speanding the time to read this and I'm also sorry for any grammical errors.
  5. once again thank you guys very much, I've been "dueling" with a few of my friends with a contraption i made up I went to Lowes and bought a piece of plastic conduit (SP?) and some foam made to cover pipes, i then cut the conduit to the correct length, duck taped the foam on, and WHALA! sparring "swords" after awhile we found out they hurt abit and head shots are not pretty, so we bought hockey masks and wore those and toned down the power of the strikes abit, lol and best thing is the "swords" only cost $3 each to make my problem is theres no dojos in my area that teach sword techniques, but thank you for the links, they are always helpful Salus
  6. Thank you very much, if I could rep. you guys I would anyway, (i don't know if i should ask this question here but...) are there any drills to help my sword (katana) handling/attacks/parries/dodges that you guys know of? if i should put this question in another thread just let me know and I'll see it gets done ASAP Salus
  7. Thank you for your insight, I believe I will devote the same amount of time during my training to each one, again thank you guys, its always good to know you have such a source of knowledge to turn to when a question comes up Salus
  8. I've been interested in sword fighting for a while and done abit of research, but there's still one question I need answered and was hoping you guys could help I know that people didn't clash swords and bang them like crazy, so my question is how did you not get hit (with out using a shield, lol) did they use the side/ back of the sword to block with, did they dodge the attack or by some other means escape death Thank you for any replies Salus
  9. I've been studying the traditional arts for awhile and have begun to cross train in combative arts, and was wondering which one would be more likely to be used in real life confrantations, I've been told that the backfist is faster but after comparing the two I've found personally they are the same speed. Thank you for any replies, P.S. I'm not trying to say traditional is better than real-life trianing or vice versa, I've studied both and enjoy both very much Salus
