  1. Sure enough, I went and found a school I trained at 6 years ago. I left due to work and when I came back they were gone. Since I was unhappy I looked around and here was a new school (turned out old school relocated). Teacher has me do some stuff and then said lets move on. No charge for being evaluated as my Bo Black. He of course will now kick my a#$ to BB. The funny thing is I met a Bbelt who said she too was at the old school. When she came here she was blue belt but voluntarily went back to yellow after realizing what real training was. Mcdojos bad.
  2. I have just become totally frustrated with my Mcdojo. I have trained on and off for years (15). Due to moving I can never get threw a style or BB. I have had and re earned my Bo Black belt for the last 10 of those 15. I joined what seemed like a good school at first. The teacher suggested it may be better to start over and relearn the sytem so I agreed. Then I realized they test every 2 months. As I looked closer I saw a lot of passing but no skill being accomplished. During the test he has you do random kicks up and back. At this point I did some jump kicks, spin kicks and cool combinations, all BBelt level. Everyone commented, especially since I am an old guy at 41. Well, I earned my white belt. Next test same thing. We were also required to do basic forms Ki Bon 1-3 (white, yellow and orange.) At this point I had re learned the first 5 forms from my old book. Passed and got yellow. At orange I was so bored it hurt. At this point some of the Black Belts would ask me about side kicks or spin kicks. Everyone knew I was not a low belt. I finnaly realized he just wants my $50 a belt every 2 months.
  3. Also new here. I trained for a while but just got back in to Martial Arts after a 6 year Hiatus. Started Hapkido since I trained in it informaly for while in the old days. I have been back for about 4 months now. Comes back quickly though. I got all the falls down including high throws. Back to feeling comfortable executing Pucha goki and Tai Goki off of punches. Love the stuff.
  4. Yes, You could take a one step, remove the formalities at the begining of each persons turn and FLOW back and forth.
  5. The best example I know of is a JKD flow drill. YOu line up in fighting stance in front of each other. Hands up of course. First person throws a punch towards the face of opponent. Opponent then blocks with back hand by tapping punch to left, away from face. At same time front hand comes up also blocking ear from same or second punch. This first step is a kind of one,two block. Again left hand sweeps across to right tapping punch and second hand comes up to ear like a reverse knife hand. Now the third step is the left now drives forward pushing the punchers arm back almost across them. Now the fourth step is the defender executes a punch across that move. I cant spell it right but use the term pok sow. Starting slow what should happen is as the last move, the punch occurs, the first move of second person starts, the slap block. Now both sould be able to FLOW back and forth. As speed and smoothness develop you can step out for long punch or in with elbow. In HapKiDo there is alot of similar using back hands back and forth while standing foot to foot. DAO Good excersise.
