White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. Here's what I think. You're an amazing learner, and being able to learn by site is something not everybody does well. However, and I'm not saing it's wrong, but learning by DVD/movie is a cheap way to get ahead of your class. Right now you're at the point where you can't wait to learn more. So here's what I would do. I'm not sure what the emahisis is on in your Dojo, but watch your Sensei. Make your stances and techniques as simular to Sensei as possible. Then, do that and be the first to the position in the kata before the class, but still on count. The trick right now is to create games during kata to keep you focus on something, even if you alraedy know it.
  2. This might sound stupid, but my Bo is a former broom stick. It surprisingly can take some pretty hard hits.
  3. Yeah, I was at that seminar. Sensei Marlin, Sensei Toby and Shihon Mack taught it. I was Ichi Kyu when I learned it. I was wondering because I was at one of our tests when some of the participants used it as a test Kata, so I wanted to see how many people here know it.
  4. I'm just wondering, but how many of you out there do a Kata called Nana Ju Shi?
  5. Despite what the belt to the left says (I still don't get that), I am a Sho-Dan in Shudokan Karate Do, and it took me six years to achieve. I think that four to six years is a great time frame to make a Dan. However, I know of other Dojo's in my city that give dans after two or three years. Why would anyone do that? Makes me want to cry...
  6. Yeah, I know quite a lot more Kata than my peers, but it's a lot of responsiblity on me.
  7. I'm from Shudokan Karate Do, and here are my Kata: Pinan 1-5 Kotaka Rohai 1&2 Aoinagi Matsukazi Wan Kon Keishin Sonshin Shiho Kosukun Kosokun Sho Kosokun Dai Chubanna Kosokun Sei Ru (A.K.A. Ju Roku) Hanshi Ni Sei Shi Happo Sho Ken Sho Bassai Dai Empi Take Empi Eiwa Ananku Shinpa Tan Shinpa Cho Unsu Unchu Nana Ju Shi Hakusudu No Onna
  8. I train under Shihan Morris Mack, and I will second the fact that there are only 5 pinans. Shudokan only has 5.

    Favorite Kata

I have a few favorite katas. The first is Bassai Dai. The second is a Kata called Chubanna Kosanku. Chubanna has a very nice double jump. I aslo doing a Kata named Shinpan Cho. This a very spiritual kata and means alot to me.
  10. Hey, well, those Kata sound fun, and I know Rohai and Matsukazi. But I enjoy doing Matsukazi alot, and it's great to knoe if you know Aoinagi.
