  1. I taught at a "special needs school". All the students used MA as a sense of private confidance. They were able to see themsleves as one of the 3 ninja kids despite various handicaps. to sum up positve effects --> added confidance, increased respect and more importnatly, longer concentration span negative effects --> some little boys tend to get a bit cocky.
  2. Can anyone help ,e tell the difference between the jump in kankusho (the second one with the cresent kick) and the jump in unsu. Other than kankusho is 180 deg and unsu is a 360???
  3. while i agree that its wrong to have little black belts i think 16 is a fair age. Providing the student is of an excellent standard. How ever i have met exceptions, name ly a 15 years old 2nd dan who was amazing (just a normal kid, no parents in karate). when he turned 16 he had to do his first dan grading again whichw as a shame. I think the key is not allowing the students own instructors to grade them, but rather an outside panel
  4. ive been teaching kids i was still a kid (13 years old) and some how ended up teaching a classes of 12 three to five year olds. All we did was play games but there karate was pretty good despite their age. the trick is to come up with games that teach good karate. I found that going over drills bored the kids and did not make them wont impress me or their friends, so they didnt care. the games worked here
  5. I trained in a tiny two car garage for 6 years (from 10 until 16 years old). My instructor managed to take myslef and 5 other students all the way from our first lesson to our 1st and second dans. The garage kept class size small, and inadvertabtly resulted in really good close quarter kumite
