White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. I've always wanted to learn that weapon too. I've used one a couple of times, and as far as I can tell, its similar to using a bo.
  2. Well for starters, make sure you hold the bo in thirds, if your right handed you'd generally keep your right hand up, and your left down. sorry if this is really basic, but I don't know how far along you are. I suggest trying to find someone you know who uses the bo, or for a last resort use a training video. I don't recommend them, but they can be rather handy.
  3. Welcome! I'm new here too, but its a great place!
  4. You have mastered the basics, this is just the beginning.
  5. Good advice. I'll get back to you on that......
  6. Thanks! That helps a lot.
  7. How short is too short to get a black belt? I got mine in 3 and a half years, going to my dojo two to three times a week. I don't feel like I was rushed, my sensai felt I was ready. I do really well at tournaments agaist martial artists who have been training for far longer than I have. (I do realize the garbage that you see at tournaments isn't all black belt material, but still.....)
  8. I've been studying the bo for the past three years, and I feel like I have barely scraped the surface of what is capable with this weapon. Can anyone give me links to sites w/ advanced techniques or tutorials on how to effectively use the bo? Any tips would be welcome too!
  9. Umm... Hi everyone. I randomly stumbled upon this site and decided to join! I've studied Okinawan Kenpo Karate for the past three and a half years. I've recently achieved the title Shodan, and I'm looking into broadening my martial arts experience.
