  1. They were in and out. Got away with it. some valueable lessons learnt that day. Limitations of full contact ring fighting is that u are trained to focus on only one person. U fight intinctively one person at a time. Thats when i started taking fighting seriously 18 years ago. I know your saying that fighting more than one is almost impossible but i have seen it done. My brother and i started training for that situation drilling hammerfists and crosses in every direction and learning to take a punch in every direction to minimize the shock. evading blows not blocking. Positioning yourself in safe points in relation to your opponents. Some kids were having a party behind us so my brother asked them to turn the music down. They got abusive so he got abusive. Next thing u know they walking down the street 6 of them no weapons to take us out. I said to my brother give it a go. He was stronger more cabable of pulling it off. It was on he ran in the middle of the bunch and started swinging hammerfists crosses and hooks evading the blows he could and returning full power hammerfists and crosses. Take a shot from behind and then return fire. Then it was full hammerfists crosses to the head in every directon. They gave up and ran home my brother chased them and smashed the windows of their home and smashed their cars in the drive while they locked themselves in their home. He gave them a broken nose .broken jaw, my brother came out of it bruised and ended up doin 3 months jail for it.
  2. This is a situation that is hard to train for... got into a fight at a party slipped his punch, punched him back. Said he would be back. 2 hours later i hear yelling outside the hall. I open the door and 20 odd blokes standing in a line in halloween costumes. They were holding lengths of wood and empty bottles. My 2 buddies were trying to resolve the issue. All they wanted was the guy with the striped shirt. So i walked out with my striped shirt and did i cop it. Peice of wood split in two over my nose, 6 beer bottles smashed over my head, the last one thrown from about 5 metres away. I still got up and walked away. looked like the elephant man at the hospital. This was a friends family party. They walked in the hall and started beating mothers, fathers, Grandmothers and Grandfathers, women, left the kids. whats the point u say. 1. dont underestimate your opponent. he maybe easy or he may be absolutely brutal. 2. It can take a hell of a beating to keep a man down.
  3. It seems like everybody wants to talk about theories. Im really looking for someone to share with me their real life experiences. Ive heard the theories but they have never been able to be applied to me or have seen them in action on the street. It may be said that a technique works in the dojo but under a streetfight situation your body and mind behave differently. Im only relaying what i have experienced personally in the dojo and on the street. To me defending myself has been a lifetime goal that i am still trying to perfect. Yes i have the experience and i have been taught properly. I always portray myself as a student as i am now. Does anyone want to share their real life experiences on the street so all of us as students can learn something from your experience.
  4. Even a jab can end a fight. Knife hands , hammerfists, palms. It all depends on your opponent. Can he absorb that blow or cant he. That is the question. The whole point of this subject is to see what combinations other people have used in real combat. Did they try a technique and it didnt work is all relevant. This is not supposed to be a debate but a list of effective techniques reguardless of style or technique I was at a party and 3 men thought they would join in uninvited. I confronted the loudest of them which ended in him throwing a straight punch, i slipped it and left jabbed him in the nose. The fight was over but he said he would be back. And back he came with another 20 odd blokes which ended up with me in hospital badly beaten. Ill explain the details of that gang against 3 in my next post. Its not about techniques but how you effectively use them.
  5. You cant beat mma for the real street fight effect. It has all the components of streetfighting that i have seen and been involved in but they are better at it. Most of us cant train as hard or as long as they do and cant commit to combat fighting as seriously as them. If it works use it......... my point is a simple reverse punch should work but not if your hand isnt capable of landing a strong punch bareknuckle. A karate chop to the neck i still read in books will end a fight. I can go on and on....... Most people are deluded in what their abilities really are. Not their fault, they have been taught to believe that. But if put to the test in a streetfight or an all out mma contest you get a pretty good idea of what u can do. The idea of this subject is to share other experiences, because u cant argue with the real situation. It was tested.
  6. The term "If it works use it" is a paradox for most because you dont know if it works untill you use it.
  7. The early years was a testing ground for fighting. The techniques i learned in the martial arts were not effective so i took every oppertunity that presented itself to me without directly provoking it. The later years was pure self defense or defending others more vunerable. I realised early that you must test your techniques and succeed to have total confidense in your ability. eg. a closed fist in the head actually hurts your hand, conditioning your hands is not good in the long run due to the arthritis that is settling into my hands now. so i wouldnt reccomend conditioning. Other techniques that seem to work in the dojo dont apply when used without padding. (gloves) Bottom line is you cannot have confidense in your ability without testing your technique. Lets find the right techniques and practice them. Im hoping to find a few in this subject from others that have used them in real combat. Maybe we will all learn something.
  8. I answered a post in another subject that i thought belonged here as well. After 4 years boxing training and 2 years taekwondo i ended up in a street fight with a wingchun practitioner while his brother also a wingchun practitioner stood there and watched. After a bit of a qrarrel he warned me that he studied wingchun for six years and his brother 4 years and that i had better be weary of him. So i enticed him to have a go so he exploded with a flurry of vertical punches landing about a foot in front of my face as i stepped backed and round kicked him in the head. He was still on the ground when i left

  10. We all practice different m.arts all over the world. We take a style and individualise it. So after so many years how did it turn out. Id like to hear other peoples real life combinations that took place in the street. Did you cock your hand to your hip and reverse punch. Did you upper block reverse punch. was it a triple wing chun punch. was it an elbow and knee. Did it happen as you were taught in the dojo, or was it a slug fest till you got lucky. Ill go first. My first 3 streetfights after 10years ma. Left jab- double leg takedown- right cross while he was on the ground-over. Right cross. left hook. over. Hook caused swollen hand. hard to land bare knuckles. R.cross- L. hook- R. cross- rear round kick chamber and snap style to upper arm- over. My hands were down by my sides then i attacked as he moved forward. My punches flowed in a boxing style and my fists landed thumb up. Vertical punches seem to land better bare knuckles.
  11. My objective to enter this discussion is not to create debate. But hopefully save some people a lot of time. People like myself that needed the right training for the situations that happened to arise over the years. If i had of blindly followed the advice of people superior to me i would of spent a lot of time in hospital. It is hard to express the situation of the martial arts without violating the forum rules, but i know the experienced fighters know what im talking about. They know the blood sweat and tears involved to continue and maintain your ability to defend yourself well. But that is the problem, its the inexperienced people that need to defend themselves that need to know. I wish i knew then what i know now. A child needs a teacher, what kind of teacher you get is just a gamble.
  12. A pleasure to read from this post. A credit to this discusion of useful imformation that will help many people with real problems .good one.
  13. My concern is that there are people that have had a violent experience and are relying on someone to teach them to learn to fight back. I was one of them and learned many martial arts to a high level from only high ranking instructors. to me it was an obsession so i would not be hurt again. Each High ranking instructor I learnt from I put to the test in full contact confrontation. Believe me after 20 years of martial arts experience in full contact they all put up a form of boxing when on their feet. When a rain of punches are landing on you moving in the form of boxing is the most natural thing you or any master will do standing up. The martial arts have changed over the last 10 years to adapt to reality. They have become hybrids that dont resemble the original form. Ask your instructor to go full contact and observe. You will see that there is only a hand full of effective techniques that u can use under pressure.
