White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. I use a Ash bo....it's light enough to work with and solid enough for sparing.
  2. There are a lot of 35+ mom's who take karate at out school. Many of them take classes both with the kids as well as regular adult classes getting the best of both worlds. You'll get a good work out and there is something to be said for spending time exercising with your child. fylcon
  3. Interestingly enough we must learn the kama at as part of our blue belt. But when we become green belts we're give the option of learning both Bo and Nunchuka. However of the optional classes, the bo is the least well attended. My understanding is that more people find the kata's associated with the bo more difficult. I however love the bo and if I had to make one choice, bo it would be. While I'm not sure I believe we need to master at least 1 of our optional weapons for our BB fylcon
  4. Taking size out of the picture, those v-neck tops just will not fit every female no matter how thin they are. However with her size she may feel more comfortable wearing a T-Shirt and a gi. However give her the choice of wearing a black gi over a white gi. I'm no where near heavy and when I look at myself in those mirrors in a white gi all I know is they make me look fat, the black gi didn't make me look that way and now I wear blue v-neck and black bottoms. Infact many of the women I know prefer black for obvious reasons.
  5. In addition to getting them to take turns attacking and defending, have them work on say right side or left side only, hands or feet only. Everyone has a stonger side and most people are stronger in say hands over feet so getting them to work both sides and hands and feet will help them to become more balanced and more flexible. Liana
  6. Hi, Hubby has decided to get me a punching bag (apparently it will be safer for him) So he's been looking around and has now asked me what I prefer. Right now I'm considering a heavy bag with a hydracore. Has any body had experience with this type of bag? Or any suggestions on what they've found works? I do Karate but I suffered a foot injury last year that is taking its time healing (of course if I stopped karate it probably would heal fine ) Thanks, Liana
