i like all ur posts and im glad people can argue this point, i would love to go to that school where they taught martial arts too, at my school theres a lot of people i dont like there and to teach them martial arts i think would be like giving a demon a pitch fork, and i forgot who said it but about practicin martial arts but not saying u do is incredibly difficult i thinks, i mean i only tell my really good friends or nice people i know who take martial arts but i never say "oh ya i can break 8 bricks w/my head or beat up black belts" i say i do it but i just keep it like " ya i take karate its really fun" and if they(people) ask me kould i do this or kould i do that i just say maybe i kould, also a thing i would recommend not doing is telling ur teachers that u take martial arts cuz then they bring u up in stories and senerios but if u like that kind of thing then by all means go ahead i just dont want me doing martial arts to be exploited as hey i take karate i can kick ur butt, i hate that and you are about it leading up to fights and people sayin oh well hes only this color i can still take him in a fight, thats happen to me a couple o times and i just say ya u probly kould then there just like ......ya thats right (stupid jock laff) lol jk its a good activity i think do have at school but i think only for people who need it or are mature enough to handle it should be taught it, u know wht i mean some people are so ignorant there like " oh u take karate wht with like 5 year olds i loath when people talk like that or if u do tell themur in martial arts then they atart laughing. just thought i share a few things on my mind, -peace -
ya they do it now i think as more of a dance using instruments , and the tempo of the music indicates how they should be "playing/fighting" but none the less i think its a magnificent art

hey ive looked into capoeira i dont practice it because it is unavailable to me but it is a style of fighting, it started a long time ago when portugal inhabited brazil and slaves were forbidden to fight and there hands were always tied up, so the used a style which involved kicks and mostly only kicks, however they were not aloud to practice fightin so they had to make it look like a dance but at the same time use it to train, the later rebeled and fought off the portugese , then they took over brazil or somethin to that affect , didnt mean to go into a history lesson but it is a style of fighting, but ya most people now probly interpret it as a dance/fight rather than a fight,

i would be all for that if someone wanted to do that at myschool im in grade 11 i got almost 2 years exp in karate i dont know if i would ever hold one but if like a group wanted to then i would there are some people i know that have about 6 years in MMA and some black belts so it would be kool i think it might be hard though convincin the teachers or administrators to co-operate with you, unless its a non-school activity but after school and promote it at school. What style is your karate>? -

oh ya, well its actually gung fu but i think it might be like kund fu u know if it is? -
i think martial arts is one of the greatest involvements there is and it can really spark a crowd, so why not put it in public schools , like junior high through highschooli think students would benefit greatly now im biased to the fact of this but i can think of a bunch of different things that would be negative and they do out weigh the good but wouldnt that be good u kould learn to fight and then there kould be like performance katas and sparring for meets, good idea?

Don't get too serious with the book instructions - you may show up your first day knowing something completely wrong. exactly, you may do the book thing for one style and sign up for a completly different style. ya i totally agree with u i always find it much easier to see what is done and do it sometimes though books can kind of lead you to what your doing mostly i was askin about books so that when i do start it i can find ones that are similar or have an idea of what to expect -
just startin
