  1. Honestly I agree with you not passing your test because you forgot things, but it is extremely unhealthy to be too hard on yourself. Trust me I know because I am never satisfied with what I do. I almost quit because I dont think Im any good but luckily decided that this was my life. I get frusterated and dont have a good time when Im trying so hard to get things perfect. But noones perfect. My instructor pulled me aside and asked why I was so upset and I told him I was frusterated that I couldnt get things right. He told me that when you achieve your black belt everything changes, you have to step up the training because it isnt as easy as the other levels. He told me I was doing a great job and that I just needed to put more energy into everything, but not to get frusterated. As we say in our style, when you achieve your black belt you realise that you have only just begun your training. Dont be too hard on yourself, Im sure you are doing a great job, you just need to focus alittle more.
  2. I don't see why you wouldnt play music. The only time we dont play music is when the instrctor is talking or during meditation. It boosts the energy in the class, it makes thing more inviting (people are intimidated by silence), and it helps juniors by challenging them to kia louder than the music. Plus we use it with various drills. We use techno music, music that wouldnt offend anyone of course.
  3. I began teaching when my instructor told me it would help me with my material. And it has really helped me a lot. You find that people learn so many things the never would have learned when they have to teach it. I would definately recommend it!
  4. 1st- I like what your instructor did by having them sit down, maybe have them stretch or something that way she gets better faster because shes stretching whatever she hurt. 2nd- You have to explain that martial artists are not trained to "fight" everything we do is to defend ourselves. Sparring is not fighting. Tell this guy that before he spars, he has to learn discipline and self control so he doesnt hurt anyone. Be blunt and tell him he's not ready because he doesn't understand the concepts of it.
