White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. I think in a fight where someone has been boxing for 5 years and someone has been practicing karate for 5 years, the boxer would most likely win. In this situation I think it comes down to conditioning. Most karate practictioners are just average strength. Boxers are constantly getting tougher and stronger. They run, jump rope, lift weights and in great shape. They generally have great footwork and fast hands. Now where I think a karate practioner would win is when they are very experienced. People like my instructor who have 9th degree black belts. They have muscle memory and extrememly fast. On a boxer they would take out the lower legs and then move in fast to other areas on the body. A boxer can only get so good in boxing and then he gets older and cant lift the weights anymore. A karate practioner just keeps getting better.
  2. Oh I understand, Im not in it for the actual belt. Im not taking karate just to tell people Im a black belt. I take it for fun mostly and getting to a black belt gives me a feeling of accomplishment
  3. yes I have used basic punches in kicks, but I really hate fighting. I was in one or two as a kid that Im not proud of and another I could do nothing about. When I was around 18 and got attacked by 4 guys. This was late at night and I think they wanted money. They casually walked towards me and I started walking away. One said "hey man" and they came towards me swinging. one guy had a small metal pole and the others had nothing. The first one I kicked in the kneecap and punched him in the jaw with a left hook. I then was hit on the side of the neck with a pole and then on the collarbone. I fell and they got on top of me swinging, I just remember punching everywhere and then I was out. I got up a littler later and saw spots and I couldnt lift my left arm. That was halloween night along time ago and I havent fought since then.
  4. I am going to continue karate until I get my black belt. I already have a black belt in TKD that I got when I was a kid. I want to take a self defense class. I dont want anything but self defense and workouts. I will take this with my karate and after I finish both of these I will want to do BJJ. Thats just what my plan is for now, that could very well change. But I wanted to know how krav maga would be on the street and if anything else that doesnt involve belts would be better.
  5. I meant krav maga, sorry
  6. Hello everyone, I have been training in karate for a while now and I want to take a class that is only self defense on top of karate. I dont want belts, forms or anything. I was wondering if krav manga would be a good choice for me. If not please recommend something else. Thanks
