Hi, I want to know if anyone out there is a Hung Gar teacher or Si Hing in a Hung Gar School who would like to have a private student. I've had three years experience studying Hung Gar in the past. I am a serious student and am serious about giving my all to the style and learning all there is to learn. I live in New York and work and go to School in Manhattan so I'm in the city every day. I'm looking for some one on one experienced in Hung Gar and teaching the style. If any one is interested in teaching me and is from the New York area, Please let me know. Thanks I can also be reached at therealcoonaxus@yahoo.com

Chi-Gung, Anyone?
Coonaxus replied to Coonaxus's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Well, we do 1 or 2 different chi gung excersices in my kung fu school. We do them to start the classes with. I was just wondering if there are any that can be easily learned. Or if anyone knows any sites with diagrams or something. Basically for warm up. Internal and external warmups. That's what chi-gung is, right? -
worst martial arts movie ever

I just want to say, not to offend you, Van_Damme, but personally, I really don't like Van Damme at all. I think that he is not a very skilled martial artist. If you watch carefully, he really only kicks with his right leg. Hardly ever uses his left. He'll do a round house with his right leg, then spin all the way around to do an outward crescent kick with the same leg instead of just kicking with the left. He's very flexible and I like his splits. And when he kicks with his right leg, it's usually good stuff. Strong, solid side-kicks. But he's not even. He didn't train equally. It's obvious. Unless he had some kind of injury or something that I don't know about. But, my least favorite martial arts movie is pretty much any Van Damme movie. -
Hey, ad, I don't recoginze 2 of those forms you mentioned, but Charp Choi sounds like something we do in Hung Ga. I'm not sure how it's spelled exactly, but it sounds like Chop Choy; but it's not a form. It's just a strike. From a basic standing position, you sink down into a horse stance towards the person (the person will be on one side of you, not in front of the horse) and at the same time, your punch goes in a downward/outward manner, but you twist your fist so that the thumb is on the bottom. It's basically meant for rib shots.

I just want to say to tessone and fenwick, that I am very encouraged by some of the things you've said. I'm also a christian and a lot of christian people I talk to about martial arts are against it. I'm studying Hung-Ga kung fu. Though I haven't done any meditation or anything like that in this style, I have to say that you have to be a judge for yourself. Just keep Christ first in your life and glorify Him in everything you do.

Well, we've been talking about it for a long time even before he started capoeira he always had a love for it. And we know that it won't be any time soon, since he's still new to the art. It's just for fun basically. I think music will be incorporated at least in the beginning. I don't know if it will remain as we progress since there most likely will not be music in an actual encounter. I don't think I will be biased towards hung ga, though. I think it will be pretty equal. Just an idea really. We're still trying to learn our own individual styles first.

Girls in Kung fu?
Coonaxus replied to rabid hamster's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I don't know all the facts about win chun, but I've heard that the style was originally started by a woman and it was meant to be taught as a form of self-defense for women hundreds of years ago. It might be worth researching. -
Blade13 I love my ninja sword. I payed around $80 for mine and I think it's totally worth it. It's a great conversation piece. I don't actually use it or practice with it, but I love seeing people's faces when I explain all the stuff that's on it. I take it all apart and show the 2 daggers, 2 stars, spear head, and blunt hand weapon, not to mention the blade itself. It's great I recommend getting it.

COOL!

Personally, I take pride in my collection of MA weapons. Here's my list: 5 Katanas (varying in size and design. Including one "Stick-Katana") 1 Practice Katana (wooden) 1 Ninja Sword (straight blade single-edged) doused all in black with 2 shurikens clipped on the handle, 2 throwing daggers on the scabbord, and at the tip of the scabbord, a hidden section seperates with a hidden spear-head and blunt hand weapon. Cool, huh? 1 Pair of sais complete with cool carrying case 2 6-point shurikens 1 Pair of Butterfly Short Swords 1 Set of 5 throwing daggers that look like playing cards 6 pairs of Nunchakus: 3 wooden with chains, 2 foam practice chucks, and 1 extend-a-chuck (black metal and chained) 1 Bo (actually, it was home-made from an old broom, but the size is good
