  1. This is pretty much the same in our style expect the owner doesnt have another buisness BUT he doesnt teach as much as his wife. His wife teaches alot of the class.
  2. Make that flyer appealing, no one will read a boring flyer. Put a student jumping in the air doing a great kick, even if it isnt your own student. Put pictures mainly, plain puts people to sleep.
  3. Our school charges a flat fee. We pay 25$ at the end of every year so we buy supplies for the following year. We have no testing fees.
  4. We do that once n awhile. We have the breakaway boards.
  5. Most of the time we drill them hard. I find it fun just to get away from the techniques once in a while. Not like we play games EVERY day.
  6. Why? They have fun when they play games, while they do play they learn also. Yes, the games are fun but we incorporate listening skills, discipline, and Self-Control.
  7. Maybe I am just trying to get new ideas for games at the end of class. We play the same game most of the time.
  8. What "Games" or "Activities" do you guys use in your class to entertain the teenager students.
  9. We have a peewees class, they are 6 - 10. Our Juniors class is 11 - 14 and the adult class is 14+. We have to move up some of our 12 year olds to the adults because they can tear up the junior class with 1 kick. They are even tearing up the adult class. Surprising enough they are all girls who got moved up.
  10. Depends, If you dont have a good student to instructor ratio. We try to have 1 assistant intructor per every 5 students. Knowing we have 20 kid classes out of the 200+ students we have. There will be atleast 3 assistants on the floor to help control the class, help the class, and help show correct technique. You dont want to have 20 students per 1 instructor. It would be like a school classroom where not every student has time to get helped.
  11. I really thank you guys for your help. I will put all most of your suggestions into use for my teaching style. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Describe in detail how to earn the respect of an adult student. The above question has been a question I have been stuggling on. Its hard putting the things I want to into words. Can you help me on this one?
  12. Thanks KempoTiger. I mostly struggle with the 13-16 age group. They have no interest and most of the time its "My parents are making me". It's like trying to teach a sleeping bear, you ask them at the end of class what they learned and it takes them 5 minutes to think of a answer. Sometimes that answer was not taught in the class.
  13. I show alot of respect towards the students im teaching. Most of the kids in the class want to go home and play video games. I can relate to that because I was like that while going up through the higher ranks. Now im faced with teaching. I've been teaching and assisting in classes for 3 years now. Now someone asked me how I gained respect from the students and I said "I really dont know""Maybe because I can relate to the students more". I just want to know how you teach and instruct the different age groups. How you gain the respect of the students. I could use your information to help my own teaching style. T.Sharkey
  14. I am a 15 year old 1st Deg. Black Belt. I train in Washington State at the Aamerican Colleges of Karate. I intruct in many of our kids classes and I love it. I also intruct in our teenager class and our adult program. I was wondering how to earn respect from the two different age groups. The teenager class (13 - 18) and our adult population (19+). I have gained much repect from my instructors and the have earned mine. Now im placed into their shoes after all the years(Started at age 5, 7year program for kids). I want to know how to earn these age groups respect. It would help alot on how I may structure my furture classes and how I teach during the class. Thanks for your help in advance. T.Sharkey
