  1. I need to get some Shin pads and gloves. Thanks in advance.
  2. go to winjutsu.com and look.
  3. I've explained this a couple times on different parts of the forum so I'll make this brief. We train in a stand up grappling, striking, joint locks, weapons, meditation, groundfighting, multiple opponents(higher levels), diffusing situations(yes, we practice what to say). We don't do sparring but we do free response where one person's name is called and everyone takes turns attacking them using any attack coming from any angle. At my dojo we also have a Jutaijutsu(grappling/groundfighting) for the guys that want to get physical, during those times some of us also put on gloves and shin pads and go full contact.
  4. I'll try to clear things up a little for you. First of all, in response to sparring, we generally don't and there are no Ninjutsu/Budo Taijutsu competitions, however many people at my dojo do compete in NHB,MMA, and grappling tournaments. We train in striking, joint manipulation, groundfighting, stand up grappling, weapons training, evasion, diffusing a situation, meditation, hope I didn't leave anything out. At my dojo all of these aspects are taught in regular class and there is no sparring. For the people that want to we also have a class dedicated to Jutaijutsu(grappling/groundfighting) where the intermediate and more experienced guys put on shin pads and gloves and go full contact as well as just grappling. This post is getting long so I'll stop now but if you have more questions feel free to email me at bkirklan@umd.edu or im me on AIM - ch0colate dutch
  5. With regards to the weapons traditional ninjas used, they used whatever they had. Many would use a sharpened metal rod as a sword and just take a katana from a dead samurai or steal one. The ninja-to is pretty much a myth promoted by Stephen K. Hayes. The people in that video were not doing Ninjutsu/Budo Taijutsu. I feel like I came into this discussion way too late because there is so much to address, ugghhh. The comment about not training to be and effective fighter was a little confusing but I know what the guy was saying. For example, Muay Thai teaches you to fight effectively with lots of combinations and such. Budo Taijutsu trains to kill or maim within a couple moves. I know this doesn't completely address the issue but it's the best I can think of right now. There was a lot of misinformation throughout the thread(and many other places) and I'll leave it at that since I don't have time to sit here at work all day. I hope I cleared up a couple of things though.
  6. With regard to competition, there are no ninjutsu competitions but there are people from my dojo who compete in NHB, MMA, and grappling tournaments.
  7. There is also a great deal of attention paid to evasion and spying. Most of the other stuff people posted was accurate. There is also a great deal of attention paid to ground fighting contrary to what someone else posted. The groundfighting/grappling aspect is called Jutaijutsu. The regular stand up aspect is called Dakentaijutsu. There are also several other techniques or "jutsu" incorporated into Budo Taijutsu.
