White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. I hope 15 isn't too old, because I'm 40 and I just started.
  2. I started a few months back and I'm 40. Yeah, I wish I'd begun when I was much younger, but hey, I'm working on it now. I'm getting quite a bit fitter and I feel better, but of course there are teenagers in my school that would wipe the floor with me and not break a sweat. But so what? As you get older, you'll learn that age doesn't make a whole lot of difference in a lot of things. I've known kids that were a lot more mature than many adults, and I've known adults I wouldn't let near my two-year-old lest he pick up their infantile behavior.
  3. $90/month for me, + $45/month for child #1, + $25/month for child #2, total $160/month, unlimited sessions per month, month-to-month contract, if you want that. I don't know about belt testing fees - haven't gotten that far yet. Going from white -> yellow was gratis.
  4. My older brother is a pretty big guy, and when he was in his 20s, dorks would come up to him and challenge him to fight (alcohol being involved, of course), just to see if they could beat him up. He got really tired of that nonsense.
  5. I've noticed an increased "body awareness", in that when I move my arm or leg it's getting better at being where I expect it to be. Being sedentary for so many years made me lose that. When I started MA, I noticed it. Now, it's not so obvious. I don't know if my reflexes are quicker - having three small kids at home makes one pretty good at catching stuff heading towards the floor and saving kids from getting hurt.
  6. Yep, doing katas is a great workout - doing 'em right ought to tire you and get you sweaty.
  7. Yeah, I did, a few nights back. I was kicking some major butt. Sadly, that is still a dream - more like a superfantasy.
  8. I'm still a beginner, but I can't say as I've used my skills (such as they are). I'm also 40 years old and well past the age where I'm going to be in a fight situation. I've not been that kind of guy my whole life anyway... I'm doing TKD partly as a fitness thing, and partly as an activity my oldest daughter and I can share.
