Yellow Belt (2/10)

  1. So you are telling me, that the video created by Leung Ting himself, the grand master of wing chin doesn't know the history of his own style. And you do?

What the hell? People get blue belts in 5 months??
  3. Come on, give it up Mr. Know-it-all, it was a random picture from googles. Geee.
  4. Wing Chun was invented by a women name Ng Mui. http://www.leungtingwingtsun.net/multimedia/iwta.wmv
  5. I practice both ShaoLin and MT kick boxing, and has experience with Wing Chun. That picture is just an example, the only one i can find in googles. If you have not seen a ShaoLin student kick an opponent's leg, maybe you have not seen enough? Whatever Wing Chu does actually came from ShaoLin, only modified. I don't mind losing or getting beaten. The fear of losing will only limit me. I will learn a lot through the process anyways, win or lose.
  6. Want to know what's funny? I got into a fight with a fat boy in middle school. I ran like 10 steps and did a jump kick on his chest. He remained standing.........looked at his cheat........looked at me..........no harm done. I turned around and ran. hahahaa.
  7. http://www.goldcupcircuit.com/ I live in San Francisco, I am a ShaoLin style student. I visited a few Karate competitions (point based) and found it very exciting. I know it's open karate and they welcome all styles. I see TKD students joining these events. My question is, would my status as a Kung Fu Style student affect anything?? I don't have a belt...........maybe I can buy a belt color that reflect my experience level?? TKD and Karate uniforms looks the same..........but not Kung Fu.........we just wear T-shirts when we train..........do i have to buy a Karate uniform?? I have read all the rules http://www.goldcupcircuit.com/rules.shtml and gained more understanding of these events. My goal is to be part of the fun. There is no need to compare styles because i don't see better "styles", only better "fighters". Another question is, Kung Fu style has a push kick (like MT kick boxing) that goes after the other person kicking leg. I that allowed in these events?? Because it makes a world of difference in how we fight. (see picture) http://www.ukwingchun.com/assets/photos/nathan_jaywant.jpg Thank you very much for your input.
  8. I am part of a "fight club" or whatever you call it. Actually I organized it. It began as a car club where a group of people hangs out and talk about cars. We later realize there were MAs in the group, as well as boxers. We decided to host annual friendly boxing meets. The only protection we had were 9 ounces boxing gloves. We usually laugh about it and most of our fights are friendly. Its not controlled like Karate spars.........becaused it boxing. No, we don't kick. We are 19 to 29 of age. We did it in an open parking lot, a block from the police station.
  9. When was the last time you were matched up against someone with more experience and bigger in size??? All matches are based on experience, weight and height. He was fat and new to the art, so he was matched up with someone fat and new. And he won. What is so hard to believe?? If you want him to fight a "real tough MT fighter", why don't you fight someone bigger, more stronger and more experienced than you and see if you'd call that a fair fight??
  10. Don't attributes and skills come through practice? Isn't finishing a fight with one blow a skill? Isn't effectively avoiding an opponent (or a raging bull) also a skill? I don't think anyone can end a fight in one blow. Not even a UFC fighter. Its fantasy.
  11. He is right. Women is not allowed to be a ShoaLin Monk, or at least not used to. BUT, there is something called a "Non-buddist student". Cantonese calls it "Jok Ga". These non-buddist students go to the temple to learn kung fu, they are not required to shave their hair. Once they mastered their art, they are allowed to "go down the mountain". But china has changed SO MUCH over the last few years..........i wouldn't be surprised if ShaoLin has become "watered down"...........just like most arts when money gets involved. A lot of monks are trained for performance now, notice people love seeing monks get kick in the nuts?? People pay money to see these things. A lot of Monks are very wealthy now...........some in drives a Benz to "work". People donates BILLIONS of dollars to the temples, and they are pretty much the CEO that handles all that money.......... Things changed............china is not like it used to be. In the old days, people fought war against the government, and ShaoLin was where people trains or "hide" from the government. There was a "purpose" to train. People cut their hair to put the past behind them, they even change their names. But now a days, with Kararoke, DVDs, entertainment, big tall buildings, who the hell wants to be a monk and can't touch women for the rest of their lifes??? Can't eat meat??? Don't be surprise that they'll allow women to train if you offer enough $$.
